The mission of The Way Back is to support men in a residential treatment and recovery center for adult men, in achieving long-term sobriety in a safe, supportive, and structured alcohol/drug-free environment through guidance and education. Our program is designed to pave the way for men to achieve long-term recovery. The Way Back’s Chef reports directly to the program director and provides nutritious meals and snacks to the participants who enter treatment at The Way Back. Your role as Chef involves overseeing the preparation of meals, creating and planning menus, managing kitchen staff, ordering supplies, and ensuring food safety standards are met.
Responsibilities and Duties:
• Demonstrate strong managerial skills by overseeing kitchen operations, supervising staff, managing schedules, and ensuring compliance with food safety and quality standards.
• Coordinate meal preparation, and ensuring timely, high-quality food service for large groups.
• Responsible for creating and updating the menu at The Way Back. They must come up with a variety of dishes that will be nutritious for participants. Menus must be posted weekly.
• Responsible for ordering food supplies, managing inventory, and ensuring the kitchen is consistently stocked with the necessary ingredients to serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner to 30 participants year-round. Effective supply management is essential to minimize food waste and maintain smooth kitchen operations.
• Ensure that the kitchen maintains high standards of cleanliness and that food is stored and prepared safely while following local health and safety regulations.
• Manage the kitchen budget, control food costs, and minimize waste.
• Provide support by applying your managerial experience and professional expertise to ensure efficient operations and team success.
• Develop a trusting relationship with participants.
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with clinical and SUD staff.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the program manager, including outreach.
• Participate in and provide up-to-date documentation of education and training that meet external and internal requirements in public health, including infectious disease, HIV, etc., cultural competency, emergency preparedness, and CPR/First Aid.
• Must maintain a warm, welcoming, clean, and safe facility and keep all equipment in good working condition.
Minimum Requirements:
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Must have a valid food handlers card
• Must complete all required education courses to maintain food handlers' requirements
• The chef must have the ability to meet the varied treatment and recovery needs in a multicultural environment. Must be able to pass a drug screen and background check.
• Must be free of probation and parole for a minimum of one year.
• Skills include strong communication and writing skills with the ability to maintain up-to-date records.
• Must be able to lead and work in a team and possess excellent time management and organizational skills. Must comply with all agency and contract requirements related to training, public health, certification, reporting, etc. Bilingual proficiency is preferred.
