Lead Cloud Operations Engineer (Remote)

Overview

This is a remote role within First Citizens Bank's Cloud Services team, specifically focused on establishing and enhancing the reliability of cloud infrastructure. As a Cloud Reliability Lead, you will help build Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) capabilities within the bank's cloud environments. This role is instrumental in driving operational excellence, improving cloud infrastructure resilience, and guiding the team through the initial phases of adopting reliability practices.

The Cloud Reliability Lead will lead a team of engineers tasked with ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of the bank's cloud environments. This role combines cloud infrastructure management with SRE best practices, introducing tools and processes that enhance monitoring, incident response, and system optimization. The ideal candidate will work closely with other cloud engineering teams to identify areas for reliability improvements and foster a culture focused on resilience and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of cloud infrastructure.
• Establish SRE practices, such as setting up monitoring, alerting, and incident management protocols.
• Collaborate with other cloud teams to identify and address reliability gaps and improve system resilience.
• Develop and implement best practices for cloud reliability, including proactive monitoring and automated response mechanisms.
• Guide junior and senior engineers in adopting SRE methodologies with a focus on gradual integration.
• Lead and participate in the on-call rotations for the team to provide incident support and ensure system uptime.
• Document reliability-focused processes and support knowledge transfer within the team.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of experience in Multi-Cloud OR High School Diploma or GED and 10 years of experience in Multi-Cloud

Preferred Experience:

• 8 years of experience in cloud engineering, with a focus on cloud infrastructure reliability or operational excellence.

Preferred Requirements:

• Proficiency with AWS and Azure Cloud Services.
• Experience with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Datadog, or CloudWatch.
• Hands-on expertise in Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
• Strong understanding of incident management, monitoring, and alerting practices.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools.
• Experience with container orchestration platforms (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

Preferred Certifications:

• AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional
• Azure Solutions Architect Expert
• Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)
• HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate

If hired in Arizona, the base pay for this position is generally between $140,000 and $215,000. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
