Job Description
TITLE: Lead Finisher
CLASSIFICATION:Non - Exempt / Hourly Employee
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR(s):Shop Foreperson, Director of Production
Department:Paint/ Finishing
Standard Work Hours:Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm. Onsite hours to vary
Compensation:$30 - $35 per hour based on experience
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interpret renderings for all treated elements and assess paint needs for shop
- Create and document paint process for each project and prep and track product orders and formulas
- Consult with the Director of Production to determine if the treated elements as designed can be realized with given staff levels and timelines
- Consult with Shop Foreman to ensure all workflow timelines are met on a per project basis
- Supervise Paint Staff and assigned workers
- Monitor paint progress and inform the Director of Production and Shop Foreman of any potential conflicts or issues
- Update project paperwork while work is in process for clear communication with team
- Appropriately prep surfaces for durability and aesthetics, including but not limited to filling holes, skim coating, sanding, priming, and coating foam
- Treat and finish elements as per design in a variety of finishes ranging from solid colors to custom designs
- Touch up stock scenery pieces and similar finish notes as they arise
- Coordinate with Shop Foreperson in regard to completed treated elements that are ready to be teched, completed, or packed
- Prep on site paint kits for each project to go along with deliverables
- Inventory and maintain stock of required paint and supplies
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- 5 years of professional finish experience
- Be able to read and interpret renderings and paint specifications
- Cohesive knowledge of surface preparation techniques including but not limited to patching, skim coating, priming, and sanding
- Excellent knowledge and experience in finishing techniques such as spraying (HVLP and Airless), rolling, and sealing
- Ability to maintain and repair standard equipment such as HVLP or Airless sprayer
- Expert knowledge of paint safety and material usage
- Expert knowledge of paint standards and techniques
- Ability to handle scenery and materials up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work independently and complete projects on a deadline
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to set a standard of excellence and inspire a sense of group responsibility among team members
