We are looking for a Lead Frontend Engineer to drive the future of NCR's Design System. As part of the core design system team, you will lead the engineering efforts and approach as we continue to expand across web and native platforms. Our goal is to drive consistency across our product experiences by creating a comprehensive design system, while helping designers, engineers and product managers become more effective in their everyday work.
The core systems team builds our component/pattern library and design system (based on MUI), along with the ecosystem of tools and documentation that support the design and engineering community at NCR. Together with core engineering, product, and design contributors - you will research new opportunities, create new experience patterns and prototypes, and be a key leader of the design system.
- Build modular, performant, and accessible components and patterns in close collaboration with the full design system core team - end-to-end through prototyping, validation, implementation, launch, and continuous iteration
- Own the infrastructure that Design System uses to serve customers, deploy code, integrate with products, deliver documentation, and manage change in the codebase
- Lead discussion among engineering, product, and design partners on approach and scoping for design system deliverables
- Serve as a technical advisor and leader to our product engineering teams leveraging the design system across the organization, support engineers in the implementation of design system within their products
Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge of modern libraries and frameworks including javascript, React, TypeScript
- Strong familiarity with Material UI (MUI)/Material Design/Design Systems/Atomic Design
- Strong understanding of JS package managers, publishing packages, git workflows, and CI/CD for publishing JS packages
- Strong understanding of static site generators
- Experience working with design systems and designers, or within a product design organization
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Deep experience with a modern web stack, whether it's Javascript bundlers, React internals, etc (Vite/Webpack/Lerna/Monorepos/etc)
- Knowledge of usability and accessibility techniques, and the technical capabilities and limitations of the web
- Knowledge of UI and visual design principles, can speak intelligently with designers, familiarity with Figma or other design tools
- Self-motivated and comfortable collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to drive alignment on solutions
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with the Google Cloud Platform ecosystem
- Experience with React Native
- Experience building and maintaining a design system
- Strong familiarity of web accessibility
- Experience working on and improving designer/engineer workflows
