Every day and in every way, we hold ourselves to an Honest standard. We believe that it is our responsibility to do our part to help create a healthy and sustainable future for all.

The Role

The Honest Company is on the lookout for an exceptional Lead Packaging Engineer to lead the charge in packaging innovation for our skincare, personal care, and color cosmetics categories. As the Lead Packaging Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in devising and executing packaging solutions for the Honest Beauty Studio. You'll also be tasked with implementing packaging programs, processes, and protocols tailored to optimize both e-commerce and in-store retail platforms.

What you’ll do:

  • Strategize with Precision: Develop a comprehensive plan that supports the current and future needs of Honest Beauty Packaging.
  • Advise with Expertise: Be the go-to authority on skincare, personal care, and beauty packaging, including form factors, materials, product compatibility, and sustainability.
  • Recommend with Conviction: Assess packaging feasibility and provide technical packaging recommendations based on component supplier capabilities, cost considerations, and quality standards.
  • Source with Savvy: Strategically source packaging materials from various vendors while ensuring they meet specified packaging requirements. Serve as a subject matter expert in sourcing, developing, and qualifying new packaging component suppliers, considering cost targets, lead times, and supplier capabilities.
  • Innovative Continuously: Explore alternative marketplaces and engage suppliers to identify and present packaging design innovations. Focus areas include dispensing methods, applicators, sustainable packaging, and material reduction.
  • Execute with Excellence: Develop innovative packaging solutions that seamlessly traverse the supply chain, captivate customers, safeguard products, and enhance the end-user experience. Oversee the component sampling process for both aesthetic and functional development. Document Packaging Specifications and Fill and Assembly Instructions within our Quality Management System.
  • Champion Sustainability: Continuously push the boundaries of packaging sustainability, performance, and cost-effectiveness.

This Job is Perfect for You if You Are:

  • Effective Communicator and Collaborator: You excel at communication and collaboration, working seamlessly with team members at all levels of the organization.
  • Proactive Problem Solver: Your ability to anticipate challenges and manage projects sets you apart.
  • Adaptable and Driven: You're eager to take on additional responsibilities as needed to support your team.

What you’ll need:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Packaging Science, Engineering, or equivalent.

  • Technical Understanding: Knowledge of component dimensions, performance specifications, package testing, and transit testing.
  • Sustainability Focus: Training and experience in Packaging Sustainability and Recycling is preferred.
  • Project Management: Strong capability in managing multiple projects with shifting priorities.
  • Communication: Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Travel: Ability to travel occasionally for required filling trials, component manufacturing, and trade shows/seminars.
  • Location: Ability to work at The Honest Company’s Headquarters in Playa Vista 2-3 times per week.
