Job Description Summary:

Messaging Infrastructure team builds and manages the messaging platform that enables asynchronous communication across
loosely integrated systems for all of PayPal. This platform serves a variety of SLA requirements that span the entire spectrum of
messaging and streaming – from lossless transactional (aka ACID) messaging (zero data loss) to low-latency messaging (in
milliseconds) and high throughput streaming (6M+ messages per sec and growing).

If you are excited about pushing a Kafka
cluster that streams around 500 billion events per day to go beyond 1 trillion events per day, then this team is a perfect match for

Job Description

This platform serves a variety of critical functional requirements, with strong SLAs that span the entire spectrum of messaging and streaming – from lossless transactional (aka ACID) messaging (zero data loss) to low-latency messaging (in milliseconds) and high throughput streaming (10s of GB/s ingestion per sec and growing). If you are excited about pushing a Kafka cluster that streams around 1 trillion events per day to scale 10x more, then this team is a perfect match for you. Job Responsibilities:

• Build & manage existing products that make up the Messaging & Streaming platform at PayPal 
• Spearhead the development of next generation of Messaging & Streaming platforms at PayPal from the ground up  
• Prototype new ideas in management infrastructure for operation of PayPal’s Messaging & Streaming Platform 
• Analyze, design, and improve stability, efficiency, and scalability of the messaging platform 
• Work closely with enterprise architects, partners and business on product design and features 

Job Qualifications and Requirements: 

• Master’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related field with a minimum of 12+ years of experience; Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 15+ years of directly related work experience 
• Prior experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems and services is a must 
• Prior experience in leading multiple complex platform infrastructure software projects/products working with a groups of junior engineers 
• Demonstrated ability in writing high-performance, reliable, and maintainable software 
• 10+ years of experience building distributed systems software infrastructure platforms using C, C++, Java, Go or Scala 
• Skilled in Operating Systems like Linux/Unix at the system call API level 
• Knowledge of TCP/IP BSD socket networking API 
• 3+ years of experience with relational database systems like Oracle, PostgreSQL or MySQL  

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience with at least one of the cloud platforms like GCP, AWS or Azure is preferable
• Experience with cloud native technologies like Docker and Kubernetes is preferable
• Experience in at least one dynamic language such as Perl, Python or Ruby is preferable
• Contributions to open-source projects preferably in the platform space is highly desired 
• 3+ years of experience working with messaging infrastructure like Apache Kafka is highly desirable
