Overview of the Role 
The Funds Legal Counsel will be responsible for providing fund formation and funds related legal advice to the Europe and Asia Pacific Nuveen businesses. In particular the real estate and the infrastructure businesses and supporting the broader global Legal group with funds related matters.

Key responsibilities will include:
•    Instructing external counsel in fund formation matters and closely reviewing that legal work. Actively managing external counsel with a view to cost management and legal risk management as well as wider Nuveen group policies, operations and expectations; 
•    Provide advice and legal assistance on a broad range of funds related legal, corporate and (in conjunction with the compliance team) regulatory matters, including, contract and corporate governance; 
•    Work closely with the Funds & Investments Structuring team on tax structuring aspects of funds;
•    Work closely with the Product function for the development and maintenance of new and existing products (i.e. funds or other investment vehicles);
•    Work closely with the International Legal Team and Global Client Group on investor and marketing matters;
•    Assist with the management of and provide legal advice on any group projects (funds related); 
•    Review, update and provide legal counsel on company policies; 
•    Identify and report on legal risks; 
•    Draft legal guidance notes on legal issues relevant to the business; 
•    Assist in the development of internal know how and precedents and best practice.  

Technical Skills & Qualifications Required
•    A qualified solicitor with significant experience gained in house in financial services or with an internationally recognised law firm 
•    Demonstrable private funds experience, including applicable regulation. Knowledge of Luxembourg, Jersey, German structures an advantage. 
•    Experience managing external counsel 
•    Cross border experience 
•    Experience with carry structures and other investment vehicle types
•    Real estate and infrastructure fund experience a distinct advantage
•    Retail fund experience not required but will be considered as part of broader experience

•    Experience of working on a broad range of matters with a flexible attitude 
•    Comfortable operating in/with a multi-location and multi-national extended team
