The Role

This role is a great opportunity for the right candidate to be part of an innovative firm that is growing and breaking new ground in the financial markets in electronic trading. The candidate will be provided with valuable first-hand experience to be involved in a broad range of legal in-house disciplines and opportunities, and to get involved with business matters from the outset. The role is an opportunity to play a key part to help maintain a strong legal culture and in supporting the business to lawfully achieve its growth ambitions. 

Reporting directly to the Head of Legal, APAC and working closely with other members of the team in EMEA and APAC legal and compliance team. The Legal and Compliance team is headed by the General Counsel for EMEA and APAC (London) and comprises of a team of 12 (comprised of 4 lawyers, 1 paralegal, & 7 compliance professionals across UK, EU and Asia).  The candidate will work as a team member of the EMEA & APAC legal team, and shall support the team’s workload generally, but with a focus on the APAC business.

Compensation will be commensurate with experience.

 

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Managing high volume demand for legal support, with regular direct interaction with different business functions
  • Managing company secretarial and regulatory filings across various Asia-Pacific jurisdictions, as well as preparing board documents and co-ordinating board meetings
  • Supporting the Head of Legal, APAC with a range of legal and regulatory work, including correspondence with regulators in the region, under the oversight of the Head of Legal, APAC
  • Being the first point of contact in contractual processes and vendor management for APAC, asking initial questions and working with internal stakeholders to understand the types of services, and identify any privacy, intellectual property, outsourcing, liability, insurance, employment or other legal and regulatory implications and to proactively manage to resolution as necessary
  • Advising, negotiating and drafting commercial contracts for a wide range of services, both incoming and outgoing, such as data contracts, NDAs, client agreements, vendor agreements, software license agreements, standard terms of business, and intra group agreements.
  • The candidate will be expected to take initiative to relieve the burden upon the Head of Legal and proactively manage their own work load with minimal supervision and escalating as appropriate.

 

What We’re Looking for  

  • Singapore or Common law qualified lawyer with some experience of working without close supervision (2+ years PQE approx)
  • Experience in financial services, commercial, or technology required
  • Experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and preparing company secretarial filings
  • Strong written and verbal skills, ability to communicate efficiently and succinctly
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to spot anomalies
  • Excellent grammatical and drafting skills
  • Organised, highly efficient, diligent and ability to prioritise pro-actively and without constant supervision
  • Ability and/ or willingness to work with software that supports the business such as Salesforce, CRM tools, contract management software
  • Willing to do all levels of work in a cooperative small team ‘all hands on deck’ environment
  • Ability to challenge robustly and demonstrate critical thinking  
  • Must be 100% fluent in English (verbal and written).
  • In addition to English – fluency in Mandarin is useful but not essential.
