Scope:

The Line Engineer will have a deep understanding of the theory of operation and fundamental principles of the line design from a mechanical and controls perspective. Key deliverable will be to drive reliable line performance thru proactive asset care, strong technical skill development of self, and others and continuous improvement. Serves as the technical leader on shift driving performance through standards and routines.

Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage assets and to improve overall line reliability, quality, and waste reduction.
  • Ensures that planned maintenance work is executed timely and effectively while balancing the need to respond to urgent issues on the line.
  • Drive accurate capturing of work order data by the Technicians.
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance and repair services and make sure that manufacturer's procedures and instructions are followed in order to keep production equipment operational.
  • Serves as the first point of escalation for trouble-shooting
  • Leads identification of improvement opportunities across the entire line thru a data-based approach.
  • Drives execution of local improvement projects
  • Responsible for implementation of the engineering standards in their area of responsibility and provides feedback to design on both equipment and processes.
  • Assist Operations Manager in managing the equipment and assets.
  • Assist in the training/certification of manufacturing personnel.
  • Determine root causes of failures using a thorough and systematic approach based on technical understanding of equipment and processes.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by following safety rules and helping improve the safety culture.
  • Ensure manufacturing processes are in compliance with all internal policies and procedures, governmental laws, and regulations.
  • Assist in development and updating of Standard Operating Procedures for all processes.
  • Define process and equipment specifications needed to deliver reliable performance.
  • Maintain effective communication with all persons involved with or affected by assigned responsibilities.
  • Share expertise as needed across shifts and areas.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Engineering required; Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineer preferred.
  • 5+ years of food manufacturing experience required.
  • An understanding of mechanical equipment used in a manufacturing environment (Pumps, motors, etc.).
  • Experience with maintenance management systems/software.
  • Experience managing people and projects preferred.
  • Experience in a food grade environment (FDA, GMP's, HACCP) with aseptic and/or high speed packaging equipment preferred.
  • Experience working with equipment automation
  • Detailed oriented
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Strong ability to coach, lead and direct maintenance and controls staff
  • Solid computer skills

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to physically perform the functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
  • Must be able to work seated using a computer and phone for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work extended hours, such as daily overtime and an occasional weekend
  • Must possess visual acuity to document company records
  • Continuous walking throughout plant and distribution center.
  • Lifting up to 40 pounds
