Role Snapshot

You will lead a staff of 10 full time application developers that support the enhancement and maintenance of internal and external integrations used by WPS. Will work with individual lines of business to align resources for high priority projects. Provide next level customer service to stakeholders through pro-active communication and responsiveness. Identify and implement solutions that reduce maintenance costs, improve system performance and reduce resource requirements. Approaching work with a sense of urgency, drive and passion to solve problems.

  • Define scope, estimate the effort and plan the resources necessary to accomplish the work.
  • Budget team needs including resources, software, and training.
  • Analyze and develop reports to forecast workload and measure department performance.
  • Follow defined Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Change Control processes.
  • Understanding of Web Development, Agile Principles and Team Leadership.
  • Coach and mentor employees through technical challenges and learning opportunities.
  • Stay current with client business processes and the latest technical solutions.
  • Design and implement Java web applications to support customer service, claims processing, and self-service initiatives.
  • Support On call issues and problem resolution.
  • Take a leadership role on highly complex projects and provide guidance to less experienced staff.
  • Prepare specifications and documentation according to department standards.
  • Peer review code and technical documents for other team members.
  • Design, code and implement complex Java solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship is required for this position due to Department of Defense restrictions.
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent post high school and/or related work experience.
  • 3 or more years of related work and/or leadership experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4 or more years of experience in software development, 3 or more of years included leading staff.
  • Proven experience leading high performing teams.
  • Experience with object-oriented development (OOP/OOD) using the Java programming language and popular libraries such as Spring, STRUTS, Log4j, Apache, etc.
  • Knowledge of distributed source code management tools and processes.
  • Experience with RDBMS (MS SQL/DB2).
  • Experience with web services using REST/JSON and SOAP/XML/WSDL/DTD.
  • Experience with design patterns and unit testing and with Information Systems.

Salary Range

  • $115,000 to $140,000
  • The base pay offered for this position may vary based on your experience, knowledge, skills,and may fall outside the posted range.

Remote Worker Requirements

For remote position, employee is required to meet remote worker requirements, including a designated work station, a wired (Ethernet) connection to the network, and a minimum of 10Mbps downstream connection with at least 1Mbps upstream (can be checked at https://speedtest.net)
