Manager, Platform Engineering
Main Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic planning and execution of migrating our systems to public cloud platforms, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including infrastructure, development, and operations, to assess current systems and develop migration strategies.
- Define and implement best practices and standards for cloud architecture, deployment, and operations to ensure scalability, reliability, and security.
- Provide technical guidance and support to team members, promoting knowledge sharing and skill development.
- Manage the day-to-day activities of the platform engineering team, including resource allocation, task assignment, and performance management.
- Collaborate with vendors and service providers to leverage their expertise and resources in support of cloud migration efforts.
- Drive automation and continuous improvement initiatives to streamline the migration process and enhance operational efficiency.
- Monitor and report on the progress of cloud migration projects, identifying and addressing any issues or obstacles that may arise.
- Monitor and analyze cost of resources deployed in cloud vs. their usage metrics (idle/underutilized resources) and recommend strategies to optimize cost without impacting performance or availability
- Support commercially driven SLA, RTO and RPO objectives and devise strategies for improvement as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards throughout the migration process.
- Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies in cloud computing, incorporating relevant advancements into our migration strategy.
- Responsible for support escalation rotation, offering 24/7 leadership support for major incidents during and after business hours including weekends.
Requirements:
Education
- B.S. in computer science or other relevant field or a minimum of 10 years of related work experience in Information Technology.
Relevant work experience
- Minimum 10 years of experience working in Information Technology.
- Minimum 5 years experience managing technical teams.
- Minimum 5 years experience of cloud engineering and design experience.
- Extensive knowledge of Azure cloud services and infrastructure components.
- Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing teams.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code (IaC) tools.
- Solid understanding of security best practices and compliance requirements in Azure environments.
- Keen understanding of digital strategy, product solution architecture, and cyber security.
- Ability to analyze data governance and product compliance, with a focus on delivering tangible market value.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Business understanding
- Solid understanding of technology operations. Solid understanding of IT strategy, architecture, engineering, operations, policy, processes, standards, organizational design, governance, change management, enabling technology and program delivery.
Skills
- Computing: Microsoft office suite, Visio or other diagraming design tool, Windows and Linux Operating systems, Database, Network, Cloud PAAS and IAAS, Container, ITSM platform
- Languages: English
- Specific knowledge: On-prem and Cloud Infrastructure Concepts, Business Analysis, Operational Leadership, Strong negotiation, organizational, and facilitation skills. Able to work under pressure, meet deadlines and handle multiple complex projects simultaneously. Skilled in developing effective partnership relationships with portfolio stakeholders Experience in strategic planning and analysis
