Job Description
The Client Application Technology team is dedicated to creating compelling experiences that deliver Reuters outstanding journalism to media publishers and informed professionals across the world, with goals to increase discovery, optimize conversion, and drive engagement across the Thomson Reuters products and services.
You will plan, coordinate, and supervise the activities related to the design, development, and implementation of Reuters Connect Platform.
As an experienced technologist, you are the focal point for engineering initiatives and issues. We expect you to work with a distributed team of software developers, quality assurance engineers, UX designers, and product managers focused on the development and delivery of new product offerings.
As a manager, you are accountable for your team's results. You will apply proven communication skills, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of best practices to guide your team, and make informed decisions on their technical design, development, and deployment of features to the highest quality and maintainability.
About the Role
In this opportunity as Manager, Software Development, you will:
- Be Accountable for the successful execution of technology projects and ensuring timely execution and delivery through diligent oversight of the end-to-end software development lifecycle
- Contribute code alongside the team's developers
- Resolve escalated issues arising from operations requiring coordination with other departments
- Establish high engineering standards on execution while integrating pragmatic constraints into technical scope planning and project resource estimations
- Partner with Product and other business stakeholders to define the quarterly and annual product roadmap
- Advise cross-functional team members and business stakeholders to guide complexity and tradeoff discussions
- Develop consistent, clear communication and prioritization frameworks. Align engineering priorities with product development and business strategies
- Plan for the long-term, and firmly execute a vision that keeps improving the team's efficiency, and output quality. Continue to grow the team's knowledge, skill, and sustainability to meet growing business requirements
- Drive technological changes, assess risks and create business impacts
- Build a world-class team: Motivate, engage, develop your employees and recruit talents to your organization
About You
You're a fit for the role of Manager, Software Development if your background includes:
- Minimum of 2 years progressively responsible management experience in a software development field, or equivalent experience as a non-managing dev lead
- Must have 3 years of experience building production applications, including experience with backend service integration, website integration, user engagement analytics, and development operational tools (Git, CI/CD pipelines)
- Experience with Javascript frameworks
- Experience working with MVVM (Model-View-View-Model), MVC (Model-View-Controller Design) & MVP (Model View Presenter)
- Proven fluency and in-depth knowledge of at least one of the 4 programming languages: Clojure/ClojureScript, Re-frame, Reagent/React, Docker, and AWS.
- Demonstrable portfolio of released applications
- Employer will accept any suitable combination of education, training or experience
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- 5 years of software engineering experience
- Extensive knowledge of APIs including RESTful and GraphQL
- Knowledge of Design Systems
- In-depth knowledge of application performance benchmarking, optimization, and monitoring
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
- Experience in researching and making recommendations on software products and services for procurement
