Job Description
About SIRUM
SIRUM is reimagining the future of US healthcare by connecting people with surplus medications at an affordable cost. Our goal is to leverage the ~$11B of surplus that goes to waste every year to improve health equity for the 50M adults in the US who can’t afford their prescriptions. Families’ health comes first and everyone deserves the medications they need to stay healthy. We deliver on this promise by ensuring medicine prices are low, stable, and transparent!
SIRUM is a fast-growing, non-profit, for-impact startup at the intersection of health tech + social enterprise. Founded at Stanford University and backed by Y Combinator, our platform moves~$1M worth of medications every week, sourced from hundreds of medicine donors across dozens of states. Join us in building a national solution to the drug pricing epidemic that has been featured on The TED Mainstage, The New York Times, and Forbes.

About the Role
As a fellow at SIRUM, you’ll spend one year working directly with leadership and play a critical role in our fast-growing social enterprise. This unique post-grad opportunity offers exposure to all aspects of the organization—impact, operations, policy, marketing, and development—while driving initiatives that intersect with health technology, community health, and government. From building partnerships and managing special projects to expanding our digital presence, you’ll analyze, strategize, and project manage to make a meaningful impact nationwide.
In this role, you will be responsible for…
- Growing our medicine donor base: Identify and expand new sources of surplus medicine by exploring industries such as retail, closed-door pharmacies, and health facilities like nursing homes. You will manage project timelines, conduct market research, schedule outreach, make calls, and oversee follow-up communications to build relationships and drive donor growth.
- Supporting our existing medicine donor community: Engage with the community of nurses, pharmacists, technicians, administrators, and directors actively donating surplus medicines. This includes troubleshooting issues, answering questions via emails, texts, and calls, and creating new initiatives to highlight the impact of their contributions on families’ lives while sharing these stories with the donor community.
- Leading special projects: Take ownership of high-impact initiatives, such as piloting innovative redistribution methods (e.g. surplus chemotherapy and other oncology medications). You will coordinate logistics, including calls, shipping, and manifests, ensuring smooth execution of these efforts.
We’re excited about you because…
- You’re mission-driven: You look forward to using your skills to help individuals and families get the medicine they need.
- You’re a detail-oriented problem solver: You enjoy digging into the complexity and nuances of problems to find a solution.
- You’re great on the phone (and love it): You’re excited to spend 2-3 hours/day on calls, whether troubleshooting tech issues with current donors, pitching the program to new facilities, or providing virtual training to nursing teams.
- You’re a self-starter with a sharp eye for detail: You know how to organize yourself and others, keeping projects on track while staying focused on the finer points.
- You’re resourceful and innovative: You find ways to streamline your work but aren’t afraid to roll up your sleeves to get the job done.
- A bachelor's (undergraduate) degree is required.
What we offer…
- Competitive salary starting at $50K with a monthly housing stipend available to live near our Palo Alto offices.
- A unique 1-year role for meaningful impact: This opportunity offers exposure to every part of a fast-growing social enterprise—growth, operations, policy, marketing, and development—while working at the intersection of health technology, community health, and government.
- Great health benefits. We cover 100% of monthly premiums for medical, dental and vision insurance for full-time team members. Team members also have access to on-demand primary care, virtual health visits, personal wellness coaches, personal health advocates for medical bills and scheduling, and mental health phone line and counseling.
- 401K matching. Full-time employees are also eligible for a 4% match for their 401K.
- Time off for rest. Get about 6 weeks of time off per year, including 2+ weeks of paid company holidays and 4 weeks of accrued PTO.
- Awesome team. We’re a collaborative, passionate and driven team with a growth mindset that is up for adventures from virtual escape rooms, to urban putt-putt, to rafting to trampoline bouncing to paddle-boarding.
