Job Description

Job Summary:
Develop, deliver and evaluate the behavioral science training for Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washingtons Family Medicine Residency program.
Essential Responsibilities:

  • Train residents in the biopsychosocial aspects of patient care using direct modeling of counseling techniques, co-counseling with residents, 1:1 teaching, video taping and group didactics.

  • Develop, coordinate and administer the behavioral science teaching of the residency in adherence to national guidelines. Areas include drug and alcohol, psychiatry and family focus curricula and the core didactic series.

  • Promote a healthy work environment in the training site through group sessions with residents including Balint Group and Retreats.

  • Participate at faculty meetings and elsewhere with other faculty members in key program functions including resident evaluation and feedback, orientation and selection of new residents.

  • Keep up to date with the field of behavioral science teaching through participation in national and local networks. Evaluate our efforts in this context.


Basic Qualifications: Experience

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in counseling.

Education
  • Masters degree in behavioral science.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (Washington) required at hire OR Psychologist License (Washington) required at hire OR Mental Health Counselor License (Washington) required at hire
Additional Requirements:
  • Some experience as a teacher of adults.
  • Understanding of psychosocial issues in primary care, including family systems, drug and alcohol abuse, affective disorders, chronic illness and somatization disorders across cultural issues, domestic violence, and pain management.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in curriculum development, didactics teaching, 1:1 clinical supervision, and Balint Group facilitation.
  • Experience in medical settings including brief therapy, collaboration with physicians and health care teams highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with mental health needs of health care professionals.
