SUMMARY:

The Network Engineer will be responsible for analyzing, designing, installing, configuring, maintaining, and repairing network infrastructure and application components in a hybrid environment, under minimal supervision. The Network Engineer performs a wide variety of evaluation, maintenance, installation and training tasks to ensure the computer network performance meets DC Water and user satisfaction. The Network Engineer also provides direction, information, and recommendations regarding network configurations and installations. This role will also be responsible for deploying and maintaining services in Microsoft Azure, including monitoring, scaling, and securing the cloud environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for installing, configuring, troubleshooting, documenting, and overseeing support of network services including:
    • Cisco routers, switches, ISE, VPN appliances and wireless platforms.
    • Checkpoint firewalls.
    • Microsoft Azure and AWS environment.
  • Assist with the design, implementation, management of LAN, WAN, SD-WAN and cloud environments.
  • Troubleshoot network and Azure-related issues, working with internal teams and external vendors as necessary.
  • Monitor network performance and Azure services, identifying and addressing issues proactively.
  • Responsible for assuring high network availability through redundancy protocols, redundant hardware, and careful planning of network changes.
  • Provide firewall administration, network access controls, VPNs, threat prevention, geo-location policies and industry best practices for security controls.
  • Interface with, advise, support, and collaborate with IT department personnel to contribute to the business objectives.
  • Assist with the development of guidelines, policies, documentation, and procedures.
  • Serve as on-call infrastructure resource to troubleshoot operational issues for a 24x7 operation.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned at the discretion of the immediate supervisor.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE & OTHER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

The minimum qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability necessary for an individual to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Reasonable amounts of training are provided.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, of a related technical field from an accredited college or university with five (5) to seven (7) years of related experience.
  • 5 years Network Engineer experience with the implementing, administering, and troubleshooting network infrastructure devices, including: firewalls, routers, switches, wireless access points and other network components.
  • In depth knowledge of cloud technologies, such as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), Software-defined networks (SDN), Network virtualization and other emerging technologies.
  • 5 years' experience in migrating or extending on-premises networks to the cloud.
  • Strong interpersonal and project management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Current CCNA and/or Microsoft certifications.
  • In depth experience of IPSEC VPNs (multi-vendor) and Two factor Authentication.
  • Network Management Monitoring/Authentication technologies (Nagios, Cisco ISE, AAA, Radius).
  • Experience with network troubleshooting tools (Riverbed, Viavi, Wireshark, iperf).
  • Experience with administration of network devices via CLI, on Cisco IOS, Zscaler and Azure Cloud Services.
  • Experience with administering Wi-Fi, routing, switching, and security (Cisco and Meraki).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Teams, Azure, OneDrive and Microsoft O365.
