Network Engineer

Fastly is looking for Network Engineers highly proficient in wide-scale distributed Internet routing with hands-on experience in the day-to-day operations of routers, switches, and other network devices. Ideal candidates should have experience with high-density datacenter network configurations and excellent troubleshooting skills. Working at scale is a must, as Fastly’s network has grown over 10x in the past year alone. Working in Fastly’s Network Engineering team requires the ability to work autonomously through routine tasks while working across teams for larger initiatives.

What You'll Do

• Participate in network monitoring, planning, and traffic engineering activities for intra-datacenter and ingress/egress traffic.
• Design and deploy configuration for network devices across multiple POPs and geographies.
• Test and turn up new capacity to transit providers, peers, and origin networks as required.
• Troubleshoot and debug network performance and latency problems, configuration, and physical layer errors.
• Provide point of escalation support to Fastly’s Customer Engineering Team
• Participate in Fastly’s on-call pager rotation.

What We're Looking For

• Prior experience in Network Operations or Network Engineering in Internet Service Provider (ISP), Hosting, or Web-scale operations environments.
• Knowledge of the CDN stack: HTTP, caching/proxy, DNS, and routing.
• Skilled knowledge of core routing / switching concepts, including VLAN, VRF, ACL, BGP, OSPF, and MPLS plus physical layers including 10/40/100 Gigabit Ethernet.
• Knowledge of network management tools and applications, including NTP, SNMP, Syslog, Ganglia, Splunk, etc.
• Understanding of how the Internet works. Be ready to explain the OSI stack in its entirety, and relations between its layers.
• The candidate must be extremely comfortable in a Linux environment and have some scripting / coding abilities with bash, python or go.

• 3+ years of direct involvement with network configurations in a web-scale production environment.
• Proficiency in multiple hardware vendor syntax including Arista, Cisco, or Juniper.
• B.A. or B.S. in an engineering or computer-related field of study or equivalent on-the-job training

The estimated salary range for this position is $104,830 to $154,170.

Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location.

This role may be eligible to participate in Fastly’s equity and discretionary bonus programs.
