Function:Academic Support Family:Student Services Reports to:Campus Principal Terms of Employment: β€’ Follow the instructional calendar as approved bythe School Board and no less than 187 days per school year. β€’ Probationary Education contract β€’ Salary is in the Teacher Salary Schedule on the SAISD Compensation Plan as applicable with additional consideration for directly related experience FLSA Classification:Exempt Funding Source:This position is locally funded. Position Summary Implement comprehensive health services program for campus, provide health services to students and promote health education and preventive health practices. Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities 1. Provide direct care utilizing professional assessment skills, the nursing process, and establish school health protocols. 2. Notify parents/family of accident or illness and secure medical care for students in emergency cases (if parents or emergency contact cannot be reached). 3. Administer medications to students according to district policies and procedures. 4. Establish and implement effective procedures for mandatory screening programs; make referrals as appropriate. 5. Assess student problems and make appropriate referrals working with students, teachers, parents and medical and health care professionals as needed. 6. Review and evaluate immunization records. 7. Requisition supplies and equipment needed to maintain clinic inventory 8. Participate in the development of campus health education curriculum and provide health education to individuals and groups. 9. Provide health counseling and instruction to individual students. 10. Serve as health liaison between school, physicians, parents and community. 11. Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee, crisis team, and school communities. 12. Communicate regularly with principal, health services director and school staff regarding health services issues. 13. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. 14. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents and community members. 15. Participate in assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse. 16. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents as required, including clinic records and accurate, updated health records on all students. 17. Comply with health service federal and state laws, Texas Department of Health rules and regulations, and State Board of Education policies and procedures. 18. Performs other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities expected for this position. Minimum Requirements β€’ Valid licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas; and one of the following:o Associate Degree in Nursing o Nursing diploma o Bachelor’s degree or higher in Nursing β€’ CPR certification β€’ 1+ year as a RN in a clinical setting or β€’ 3+ years as an LVN in a school health clinic setting or related job experience β€’ Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee Knowledge, Skills & Abilities β€’ Knowledge of health appraisal to identify student health defects β€’ Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills β€’ Ability to implement policies and procedures Working Conditions Work Environment: β€’ Computer, computer software programs and peripherals, teacher resource materials and equipment, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position. β€’ Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise. Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc. Physical Demands/Requirements: β€’ Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions/deadlines and prolonged or irregular hours; Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing; Occasional: Lifting and carrying 10-25 pounds frequently, 25-40 pounds occasionally, more than 45 pounds infrequently with assistance; Pushing/pulling 10-35 pounds sporadically; May be required under specific circumstances to provide physical restraint of students in danger of causing harm to themselves or others; Frequent districtwide and occasional statewide travel.
