Job Title: Nurse Practitioner - Cardiovascular ICU 

Location: Doctors Medical Center, Modesto CA 

Job Type: Full-Time 

Schedule: Monday through Friday or 7 days on / 7 days off 

Job Overview: 
The cardiovascular Service is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Nurse Practitioner (NP) - Cardiovascular ICU to join our team. The Nurse Practitioner is a member of the intensive care team and has as his/her primary responsibility the management of post-surgical patients in the cardiothoracic ICU. The NP will assess patients, perform daily physical exams, formulate a plan of care, and provide direct patient care in collaboration with the cardiothoracic surgeons and the ICU team. 

The NP will assist in the care of post-coronary artery bypass, VATS, lung surgery, esophageal surgery, and vascular surgery patients. The ideal candidate implements and coordinates a plan of care for patients as part of the multidisciplinary team during their treatment until discharge, working with case management for an effective discharge plan. The CV Nurse Practitioner follows the patient from Admission to Discharge to ensure smooth coordination and good patient outcomes, ensuring patients are on all guideline therapies and goal-directed treatments for a cardiovascular patient. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Provide direct, evidence-based clinical care to critically ill cardiovascular patients in the ICU. 
  • Perform comprehensive assessments, develop treatment plans, and manage acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions. 
  • Collaborate with physicians, surgeons, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes. 
  • Conduct diagnostic tests, interpret results, and prescribe appropriate medications and therapies. 
  • Assist with advanced procedures, such as central line placements, arterial line insertions, and ventilator management (as per hospital policy and state regulations). 
  • Educate patients and families on disease processes, post-procedural care, and lifestyle modifications. 
  • Coordinate discharge planning, ensuring continuity of care and adherence to cardiovascular treatment guidelines. 

Qualifications: 

  • Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited program. 
  • Active and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner (NP) license in California. 
  • Certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) preferred. 
  • BLS and ACLS certification required. 
  • Minimum 2+ years of nursing experience in an ICU, preferably in cardiovascular critical care. 
  • Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and communication skills. 
  • Preferable Experience in the following devices: Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), Ventricular Assist Device (VAD), IMPELLA, Intra-aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) 
  • New nurse practitioners are welcome
