Job Summary

The NVH Test Engineer II will support Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) testing on vehicles and consumer products. The role will ensure that testing is carried out according to procedures, including being involved with setup, issue resolution, forecasting, data acquisition, and interfacing with the customer. The NVH Test Engineer II will consolidate test results and prepare reports for internal and external customers. This position is located in Dearborn, MI.

As a NVH Test Engineer II, you will:

  • Prepare and setup test equipment such as fixtures, wiring, and instrumentation
  • Collaborate with technicians to conduct tests, document test set-up, and process test results
  • Analyze data, create conclusions, and make recommendations from tests conducted. Clearly communicate test results
  • Verify testing accuracy, thoroughness, and determine if additional testing is needed
  • Identify NVH or testing issues and help to develop countermeasures
  • Tailor testing requirements and processes accordingly to ensure efficient and reliable testing
  • Lead equipment management in the area of work including helping identify needs for equipment maintenance, calibration, upgrade, and acquisition
  • Lead project management and implementation of testing efficiency improvements
  • Perform minor automotive mechanic work and part changes as required for testing

To be considered a NVH Test Engineer II, you will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related field
  • 2 years of experience working in structural dynamics and/or acoustics
  • Basic knowledge of powertrain and driveline NVH, vehicle NVH, modal analysis, mount and fixturing systems, or acoustic and damping materials
  • Basic knowledge of NVH instrumentation, test equipment, and data processing techniques.
  • Proficient skills with Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to multi-task and be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

A successful candidate may also have:

  • Master’s degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related field
  • Basic knowledge of one or more NVH or vehicle testing and analysis software: Siemens LMS Simcenter Testlab, HEAD Acoustics, B & K Pulse, National Instruments Labview, PTDiag, and Vector tools (CANalyzer & CANape)
  • Basic knowledge of numerical programming software such as Matlab, Python, or GNU Octave
  • Basic knowledge of NVH testing equipment such as impact hammers, laser vibrometer, accelerometers, shakers, microphones, tachometers, and other sensors
  • Ability to diagnose and solve NVH problems using experimental and analytical techniques, operate powertrain or chassis dynamometers, and develop custom test stands
  • Good skill with experimental modal analysis such as Frequency Response Functions (FRF), transfer functions, harmonics, coherence, Fast Fourier Transforms (FFT), signal processing, windowing, damping, etc.
