Job Description:
The Metal Processing Technician I is a member of a multi-functional team providing technical support services to the Federal Aviation Administration Logistic Center (FAALC) at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center in Oklahoma City, OK. The Metal Processing Technician Iās technical, operational, and functional tasks spectrum includes providing metal processing services including surface preparation by pressure washing and degreasing, media blasting/surface sanding, chemical finishing, masking, prime/paint newly constructed or repaired equipment and furnishings received from FAA Shops.
Standard individual administrative tasks including individual time, timesheet, leave, and training completion; performance management; compliance with customer organization and company standards; performing other tasks as assigned and demonstrating proficiency, accuracy and attention to detail in assigned duties.
Job Duties:
- Work under the functional/operational supervision of the Shop Lead and/or Technical Manager/Project Manager.
- Independently perform the complex duties of the painting trade.
- Provide fabrication and repair services such as painting and metal finishing in accordance with applicable standards. Services include the application of approved industry standard practices for accepted manual and mechanical painting and metal finishing techniques such as sanding, stripping, dipping, mixing, painting, staining, etching, alodining, cleaning, silk-screening, sandblasting and stenciling.
- Apply the processes to finish and refinish NAS equipment and fixtures.
- Inspect the fabricated item(s) to assure that it conforms to and fulfills the requirements of the FAA or original manufacturer's specifications, technical documents and modification instructions as applicable when completed.
- Knowledgeable in the use, handling, storage and disposal preparation of hazardous chemicals and materials.
- Able to interpret applicable instructions, blueprints, specifications, and standards is required.
- Knowledge of various types of required primers, paints, finishes and their proper application.
- Identify a variety of surfaces and prepare all surfaces properly.
- Able to use and maintain applicable tools and equipment.
- Responsible for cleaning and maintaining the paint booths in operating condition.
- Maintain records of discharge to Industrial Wastewater Pretreatment Plant in accordance with guidelines, listed in required reports and forms, applicable documents and Air Permit Reports.
- Independently perform the duties of the metal processing trade to include fabrication, repair, sandblast, clean, stain, silk screen, surface preparation such as pressure washing, degreasing, media blasting/surface sanding, chemical finishing, masking, and prime/paint.
- Maintain the proper chemical balance for etching, alodine and related metal processing tanks.
- Perform paint sanding booth and sandblaster maintenance consisting of waste dust clean up, collection for disposal and record keeping for waste turn-in.
- Keep records of all maintenance performed.
- Comply with environmental Considerations for the use, storage, proper packaging and preparation for disposal of hazardous waste.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED is required. Associate degree is desired or vocational training is desired.
- Practical experience in metal processing to include fabrication, repair, sandblast, clean, sand, power wash, prime, stain, paint, chemical process, and silkscreen processes. This experience must include assisting in reviewing and interpreting drawings, blueprints and related information.
- Knowledge of metal processing techniques, finishes, chemical etching, anodizing, processing, identification and surface preparation is required.
- Knowledge of personal protective equipment, applicable environmental standards, and ability to understand and follow technical specifications is required.
- Detail-oriented and possesses the ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Ability to provide incident and after action reports and analysis.
- Excellent customer service skills and professional presence.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to read, speak and effectively communicate in the English language.
- Solid work ethic.
