Nationwide Children’s Hospital is seeking to recruit an outstanding pediatric infectious diseases physician to join our growing Host Defense Program at the Assistant or Associate Professor faculty level, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The applicant is expected to be board certified or board eligible in pediatric infectious diseases and have a strong commitment to clinical excellence in patient care. Experience and expertise specific to managing infections in immunocompromised children is required.

  • Clinical responsibilities include inpatient consultations, ambulatory clinic referrals, and pre-transplant evaluations, and attending on the general infectious disease consult and ward services.
  • Academic scholarly endeavors are expected, and numerous opportunities exist for leading and participating in clinical/translational research and quality improvement efforts.
  • As the first pediatric infectious diseases program to offer a Host Defense fellowship, the candidate will actively engage in fellow curriculum and education. The division’s educational mission also includes teaching pediatric residents and medical students.

Nationwide Children’s Hospital is the nation’s largest not-for-profit freestanding pediatric health care network providing wellness, preventive, diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitative care for infants, children and adolescents of central Ohio, northern Kentucky, and West Virginia. Nationwide Children’s Hospital is committed to providing the highest quality patient care to ensure the best outcomes in everything we do for children. The 527-bed hospital houses three pediatric and three neonatal intensive care units, a burn unit, is an assessment hospital for special pathogens, and performs hematopoietic cell, heart, lung, liver, and renal transplantations.

The Host Defense Program (HDP) is a collaborative endeavor among the Divisions of Infectious Diseases, Hematology/Oncology/BMT, and the Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital designed to reduce infection-related morbidity and mortality in immunocompromised children through comprehensive clinical care and novel therapies.

The successful applicant will join the Section of Infectious Diseases which currently has 20 faculty and established programs in general ID, HDP, HIV patient-centered care, antimicrobial stewardship, and hospital epidemiology and infection control/prevention. We collaborate closely with the director and associate directors of the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory and with 17 PhD faculty with established research programs in the Center for Microbial Pathogenesis and the Center for Vaccines and Immunity, both within the Research Institute. The Research Institute is ranked in the top 10 nationally for NIH funding to free-standing children’s hospitals. Research programs are organized into 12 multidisciplinary Centers of Emphasis structured to encourage collaboration, facilitate team science, and foster creativity.
