Prisma Health Department of Pediatrics in Columbia, SC, is seeking a BC/BE pediatric physician to be the residency director for our Categorical Pediatric Residency training program. The program director oversees the training program of 39 categorical pediatric residents (13 per year), with no pediatric fellowships to provide care within our free-standing Children’s Hospital and affiliated clinics. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years’ experience within an academic setting, knowledge of or participation in graduate medical education, be committed to the recruitment and development of diverse individuals within our training program and have a track record of teaching and curriculum involvement.

All faculty have an appointment at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and teach medical students as well. The program director is supported by two associate residency directors and two full time residency coordinators. The residency director would be expected to be spend 30% minimally clinically in their area of expertise.  

The Department of Pediatrics has a record of academic achievement, high faculty morale, and has been recognized as the best teaching Department for 30 out of the last 33 years. The Department which includes 18 subspecialty divisions along with our freestanding Children’s Hospital presently provides over 160,000 patient encounters annually with 8,000 admissions and over 35,000 pediatric emergency room visits.
