Job Description
Change.org is searching for a People Operations Specialist to contribute to the company’s mission and vision by partnering with departments and integrating people support into all aspects of strategic planning and business operations.Â
We’re a social impact business (a public benefit company), and the world's largest non-profit owned tech platform focused on civic action with 80m monthly users, 50,000 campaigns launched on the site every month, and a revenue model that has grown by 500% in 2 years. We’re growing quickly, and our users win campaigns for change once every hour. From strengthening hate crime legislation in South Africa; calling for Racial Justice in the US; fighting corruption in Indonesia, Italy, and Brazil; to fighting violence against women in India.
You will report to our Director, People Operations. As a key member of our People and Talent Team you’ll be responsible for supporting People Operations with day to day tasks like payroll, benefits, systems management, and more to keep the wheels turning at Change.org. You are really skilled when it comes to data and auditing, and you love accuracy and have an eye for detail. You will collaborate across the People Team and cross functional teams to help the team come up with efficient and effective solutions.Â
Key Outcomes:
- Payroll and Benefits -Â
- Support running and auditing global payroll
- Plus if you have experience with ADP or Deel payroll providers
- Calculate bonus, retro, and transaction payments
- Tax and compliance experience such as correcting w2s, helping with tax paperwork, and liaising with global tax department
- Collaborate with team on benefits happenings like open enrollment, QLEs, and benefits support questions
- Data Management -Â
- Report on employee information taken from HRIS system BambooHR
- Audit data in our HR systems BambooHR, Sequoia (benefits), Vanguard (401k), and more
- Analyze employee data and ensure accuracy and consistency across platforms
- Manage complex data sets and create formulas to support data reportingÂ
- Systems Support -Â
- Support employee information migration project from one system (Box) to another (Google Drive)
- Audit and edit intranet with appropriate and accurate information
- Oversee electronic mail system and manage People Team incoming inquiriesÂ

- People Skills & Intentional Communication - You independently demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and are able to effectively communicate within your team using both excellent written and verbal communication skills. You are able to explain complex people issues or solutions to an employee in need.
- Ownership and results - You prioritize based on what’s important and urgent, fully own what you say you will and then drive excellent results. When you’re faced with many deadlines for payroll, employee requests, company requests, and more, you know how to plan and organize and get stuff done. You also aren’t afraid to raise your hand when you need help or input.
- Adaptability - You know working on a People Team means things can always be changing so you independently embrace change, and demonstrate a basic level of resilience in the face of shifting goals, structures, systems, or culture.
Target Experience:Â
- 3+ years experience in a People Ops Focused role
- Experience working in a startup environment

This is a fixed term role for 6 months, and while we strongly prefer folks living in the New York City Area, we are open to folks willing to work East Coast hours as the role will be remote for the foreseeable future. Our team is high impact, low ego, and we take great pride in building an inclusive and connected culture.
We anticipate moving quickly and the interview process is as follows:
- 30 min screen with our Recruiter
- 45 minute interview with our Director of People Operations
- 1.5 hour virtual onsite interview that includes a 30 min assignment and 1 hour interview with our People Ops Specialist and Senior People Ops Specialist

Change.org is a global company, and salaries are adjusted for cost of labor in each city. The annual salary of a People Ops Specialist in New York City is $90,000, in Seattle it would be $85,500, in Atlanta it would be $76,500. We are open to hiring at various levels for this role. In exceptional circumstances, we may offer below the listed salary for candidates with less experience, or above it for candidates with significantly more experience.
