Job Description
USGP has an opportunity for a PHLEBOTOMY TECHNICAN to provide services to our military service members, their families, and veterans within the LABORATORY DEPARTMENT at NAVAL HOSPITAL JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA.

- Schedule: * Naval Hospital Jacksonville: Monday - Sunday 24/7
- Degree/Education: Graduate from an academic course of phlebotomy that includes 120 didactic hours (or required by state law).
- Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support: Possess and maintain a current
certification and registration as a Phlebotomy Technician from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (PBT β ASCP) OR a current certification and registration as a
Registered Phlebotomy Technician from the American Medical Laboratory Technologists (RPT-AMT).
- Experience: Possess a minimum of one (1) year experience within the past 2 Completed 1040 hours as a Phlebotomy Technician within past 3 years. Must have performed 50 successful venipuncture and 10 successful skin punctures
- Board Certification: Certification/registration as determined by the American
- Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologist (AMT)
To include but not limited to:
- Collects and processes Accurately orders, accessions and labels correct patient sample(s) and identifies correct patient using 2 patient identifiers.
- Performs specimen collection during daily ward
- Ensures patient is eligible to receive military healthcare prior to specimen collection and laboratory
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly quality control checks on equipment and reagents including periodic checks on the
- Determines type of specimen to be collected, e. urine, serum or plasma. Determines that conditions necessary for accurate testing are present.
- Instructs patients on proper collection procedures and directs patients to other clinics after obtaining specimens.
- Performs a wide variety of waived tests which may include, but are not limited to blood glucose measurements, use of rapid antibody screening, urine testing for
presence of beta subunit of HCG. Performs POCT CAP Glucose survey as assigned.
- Draws and collects blood samples and properly labels tubes; inspects samples to identity visual need to
- Performs blind sample
- Exercise extreme care and precision in handling, processing, and shipping specimens to reference labs for specialized
- Uses knowledge of pre-analytic processing procedures to identity and resolve specimen errors, retrieve samples from archive or other storage for additional
- Receives and processes specimens from clinics, wards, and Ensures all
- specimens are properly Notifies the appropriate provider, clinic, or ward when specimens are incorrectly identified or submitted.
- Enters all specimen or patient data into Military Health System (MHS) Genesis and/or other electronic healthcare
- Collects or receives and processes Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
specimens. Prepares samples for shipment by centrifuging sample and separating serum and subsequently transfers the serum to coded shipping tubes and ships within 24 hours of collection.
- Receives patients, visitors, and lab phone calls with a level of customer
- Maintains supply inventory, orders, and restocks supply Ensure supplies are properly labeled. Disposes of waste in appropriate receptacles.
- Performs a variety of other clerical support duties, g. compiling and gathering data for reports, maintains the reception desk/area in a neat and orderly manner and
