Nelson Engineering is looking for an experienced CNC lathe machinist to join our team.
We are an established aerospace manufacturer with 60 years of success. We offer a great work/life balance with a 4 day/10 hr. work week. Opportunity for over-time is available as needed to support mfg. needs.
Must be proficient with set-ups & able to read & understand G & M code. Pay rates will be based on experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Set up, run, & maintain CNC Lathes with & without live-tooling & completely & independently perform any operations within their capacity.
• Work from drawings, specifications, & set-up instructions to check parts for conformance to specifications.
• Perform program edits and/or program at the machine control & perform all required adjustments to cutting tool offsets.
• Recognize improper machine functioning or cutting & develop procedures for corrective action.
• Provide unbiased, proactive feedback to Engineering/Programming for process improvements.
• Inspect work to detailed drawings or sketches using precision measuring devices/instruments.
• Work with the Quality department as required to ensure product conformance.
• Perform daily machine preventative maintenance (fluid levels, pressures, cleaning).
• Report to work on time & follow instructions from the department Supervisor.
• Must interact well with co-workers in a team-oriented environment & understand & follow work-place policies & procedures.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
• Must adhere to & support safe work environment policies.
Position Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and Experience:
• High School Diploma or GED.
• A solid, working knowledge of general machining practices & blueprint reading.
• Understanding of GD&T.
• Minimum of five years of experience and/or training on CNC lathes, measuring devices, & inspection methods.
• Must possess strong problem-solving skills.
• Ability to write detailed correspondence & to speak & present information as may be required to complete work orders or other job-related communication needs.
• Ability to perform basic shop math calculations in the course of assigned work scope.
• Must have thorough understanding of CNC machine functions, as well as G & M code, & be able to edit & write simple programs at the machine control.
