Job Overview 

Our innovative and growing company is looking for a Principal Cloud Platform Engineer. The Cloud Platform Engineer has end-to-end responsibility for designing and implementing Sequel’s cloud-based infrastructure to support our growing business needs. The initial focus of this role will be on standing up the basic cloud systems (AWS and/or Azure) to support our new application development team with an eye towards speed to market. From there, the candidate would be empowered to design and implement a best-in-class solution that integrates business processes and systems from across Sequel’s business and partnering with internal technical team and external consultants to implement this design. The ideal candidate for this role will have hands-on experience with AWS and Azure, have a deep understanding of best IT security practices, and be excited to build great digital platforms and products to support a rapidly growing medical device startup. 

Job Responsibilities and Essential Duties 

• Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of Sequel’s cloud-based infrastructure utilizing AWS and/or Azure services. 

• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into scalable and secure cloud solutions. 

• Develop and implement best practices for cloud architecture, security, and operations to ensure the reliability, availability, and scalability of Sequel’s cloud platform. 

• Work closely with the application development team to provide infrastructure support and guidance throughout the software development lifecycle. 

• Implement infrastructure as code practices using tools such as Terraform to automate the provisioning and configuration of cloud resources. 

• Monitor the performance and security of Sequel’s cloud infrastructure, utilizing a variety of monitoring tools and implementing necessary optimizations. 

• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of Sequel’s cloud platform. 

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards related to cloud security and data privacy. 

• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior members of the cloud engineering team. 

• Evaluate emerging cloud technologies and recommend solutions that align with Sequel’s business objectives and technical strategy. 

• Participate in the resolution of complex technical issues related to Sequel’s cloud infrastructure, serving as a subject matter expert. 

• Act as a liaison with external consultants and vendors to leverage their expertise in the design and implementation of Sequel’s cloud platform. 

• Responsible for the technical implementation of the cloud environment and ongoing operations. 

Minimum Requirements 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field preferred 

• 10+ years engineering experience at an enterprise level 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

• Experience with AWS and Azure services for a variety of use cases, including data storage, hosting, identity and access management, cybersecurity, monitoring, and more. 

• Experience with infrastructure as code, containers, CI/CD. 

• Working with a breadth of monitoring tools to ensure performance and security. 

• Ability to operate in a lean, agile environment, moving quickly to MVP and iterating to scale while ensuring cybersecurity and privacy remain paramount. 

• Scaling enterprise service across geographies and understanding of data governance and replication.
