We're hiring a Principal Data Platform Engineer, reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager for Product Data Platform. You are either an expert Data Engineer with exposure to software engineering and cloud infrastructure or even a Software Engineer with a deep knowledge in analytical data platforms.
You have extensive background of big data systems and are equally comfortable designing and developing high-quality software services. You will be part of the team developing and maintaining innovative data platforms & services for Atlassians' data platform with a focus on reliability, scalability and performance.

In this role, you will be joining a strong team of engineers with varied backgrounds ranging from backend engineers to core data engineers who are responsible for managing Atlassians' customer facing data platform.
- Design, develop and own delivery of high quality big data and software solutions aiming to solve business needs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, senior engineers and architects across multiple disciplines to spar, design, and ship new features.
- Contribute to uplifting and maintaining high code quality through peer code reviews, defining and establishing coding standards/guidelines/best practices in the team.
- Establish and drive improvements to operational excellence - security, reliability, availability, performance, procedures and processes etc.
- Use data driven approach to drive decisions and propose technical solutions to navigate ambiguity and change, learn and adapt to changing landscape.
- Lead code reviews & documentation as well as take on complex bug fixes, especially on high-risk problems
- Partner across engineering teams to take on company-wide initiatives spanning multiple projects
- Transfer your depth of knowledge from your current language to excel as a Software Engineer and mentor more junior members
- 10+ years of experience in Data/Software Engineering role with relevant exposure to the Big data ecosystems
- PhD, Bachelor's or Master's degree (preferably a Computer Science degree or equivalent experience).
Expertise in handling complex problems in a distributed and big data environment. - Experience building applications in one or more languages (Kotlin, Scala, Java, Python)
Strong knowledge of AWS services - Experience in building services from the ground up from gathering requirements, designing, building, deploying, and ownership
- Familiarity with cloud architecture patterns and an engineering discipline to produce software with quality, performance, scalability, reliability, high availability, and operational excellence.
It would be great, but not required if you have
- Experience with Databricks, Spark, EMR, Flink, StarRocks
- Experience with scaling and deploying Machine Learning models & ML training.
