The Principal DevOps Engineer will join our Software Engineering team in Indianapolis, IN. Our team develops virtual reality and Unreal Engine (UE) gameplay solutions. The Principal DevOps Engineer should have experience developing and supporting software infrastructure within agile SW development environments. The Principal DevOps Engineer should have strong communication and team building skills and embrace modern development processes and techniques that improve code quality and productivity. The ability to listen with empathy and seek to understand the perspective of others is one of the keys to success within our Agile teams. Individuals who love to learn and seek new challenges are highly valued. This position is based in Indianapolis, IN. The ability to work on-site is preferred, however remote work will be considered for the right candidates.
Virtual Systems is a growing section of ~20 people carving a niche focused on virtual training systems. We are building our competency with virtual reality and UE gameplay development. We enjoy the R&D benefits of a partnering with large companies and the agility / comradery typically found in smaller startups. We believe in agile principles and strive to continuously improve our practices. We are looking to bring on a Principal DevOps Engineer who can help establish best practices and mentor other team members while we are growing our technical bench strength.
Our tool suite includes the Unreal Engine, Unreal Game Sync, Visual Studio, Perforce, Jenkins, Coverity, Visual Assist, Cucumber, Gherkin, and Azure DevOps.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Manage Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery Pipelines.
- Provide troubleshooting and timely resolution of system, network, and infrastructure problems with the support of our IT team as needed.
- Analyze current technology utilized within the company and develop steps and processes to improve and expand upon them.
- Assist in creating practical demonstrations of proposed solutions and demonstrating them to other members of the team.
Required Skills:
- Minimum of 8 years related experience in Software Development or other related engineering experience.
- Ability to research, analyze and optimize code to meet performance requirements.
- Expert competence navigating Windows and Linux environments.
- Programming/Scripting languages (GoLang, C#, Python, Groovy, Shell).
- CI/CD management pipelines (Jenkins, TeamCity, GitLab, Azure DevOps).
- Infrastructure automation tools including Terraform, Packer, Docker.
- Experience with networking including server/client systems and Unreal Engine replication best practices.
- Strong communication and teaming skills demonstrated by experience working within Agile or DevOps SW development teams.
- Must be a US Citizen.
Desired Skills:
- Experience working with Unreal Engine.
- Experience working with cloud infrastructure and services (Kubernetes, AWS).
- Knowledge of secrets management and artifact management tools.
- Experience creating natural, intuitive interactions in virtual environments.
- Learned design patterns and best practices derived from experiences with Unreal Engine challenges.
- Experience with DoD development process.
- Current/active DoD Secret level or higher clearance.
- Ability to obtain a DoD Secret level clearance.
Education Requirements:
- BS / BA with a major in Game Development, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Math, or another related field.
- Requires advanced to expert knowledge of work area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.
