Job Description:

Parsons is looking for a sharp Principal Engineer to join our growing Mission Solutions team!

The ideal candidate embraces the challenge of leading an engineering team in designing, building, testing, and troubleshooting hardware to maintain and enhance our current and future platforms which includes everything from lasers to drones to RF based systems. The candidate should possess a strong knowledge of designing, developing, and implementing cost effective methods of testing/troubleshooting systems and equipment and be willing to not only impart that knowledge on their team but to also be hands on and willing to do the work themselves as needed. They must be self-motivated, dependable, have outstanding written and oral communication skills, and exhibit excellent interpersonal/team participation skills. They must also possess excellent analytical and organizational skills with a commitment to customer satisfaction.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Independently develop and/or supervise the creation of engineering products that meet customer requirements. Typical products may include:
  • Complex electrical, hardware and system designs
  • Printed Circuit Card designs
  • RF System Design
  • High Power laser system design
  • Detailed calculations
  • Engineering Drawings
  • Design and installation packages
  • Proposal evaluations
  • Technical reports
  • Detailed analyses
  • Interface with technical support personnel, technical writers, and technicians as required.
  • Initiate review meetings to discuss functional specifications and facilitate the effort to translate them into software requirements.
  • Develops complex test simulations to verify features and functional specifications.
  • Keep management informed of developmental issues through discussions, technical presentations, and reports.
  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Desired Qualifications:

  • BS/MS in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • 10+ Years of Experience
  • Proficient in utilizing CAD and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering drawings and printed circuit boards is required (Altium desired).
  • Power system design to include AC and DC distribution. Requirement's analysis, component selection (contactors, breakers, connectors, DC-to-DC convertors), circuit analysis and packaging considerations.
  • PCB design related to control of the power systems and controlling mechanical devices. Analysis and sizing of PCB traces for power distribution.
  • Experience with embedded microcontrollers related to serial communications, discrete I/O and analog I/O. Control system theory for PID control using microcontrollers. (Microcontroller software development experience desired).
  • Strong debugging skills with test equipment (scope, logic analyzer, embedded debugger)
  • Circuit design
  • Design of power distribution systems
  • Design of embedded micro-controller systems to include analog, digital and power system
  • Component selection
  • Schematic capture and PCB Design (Altium preferred)
  • Cable design
  • Embedded Software
  • Microcontroller Atmel SAM series
  • Interrupt service routines
  • Discrete IO, ATOD and DTOA
  • Serial interfaces
  • Integration and Test
  • Use of test equipment (Scope, Logic Analyzer)
  • Embedded Debuggers for software
  • Military Standards
  • A strong understanding/background in military standards and specifications to include but not limited to:
  • MIL-STD-810 (Environmental Engineering)
  • MIL-STD-461 (Electromagnetic Interference)
  • MIL-STD-1472 (Human Factors)
  • Hardware and electrical design standards
  • Interpersonal Skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate and work effectively with team members
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate (both verbally and in writing) with team members, managers, and clients on complex software issues pertaining to assigned tasks

Salary Range:

$121,900.00 - $219,400.00
