Overview
Want to establish foundational materials, ingredients, and science knowledge for new innovative products that expand the portfolio of products for a Fortune 200 company with some of the most iconic brands? If you have a bachelor's degree in a related science or engineering area, along with eight plus years of related experience, we want to speak with you! We are currently seeking a Principal Scientist I - Product Developer to join our Venture Growth team in Richmond, VA.
What you will be doing:
- Lead early-stage product development activities intended to build foundational product knowledge in materials, ingredients, formulation science, pharmacokinetics, and breakthrough technologies with a focus on non-nicotine product platforms
- Develop innovative concepts, prototypes, and/or delivery technologies/formulations that can be integrated into product formats that provide adult consumers 18+ with functional benefits and sensorial experiences that are satisfying and enjoyable
- Work with internal and external cross-functional partners to generate data and insights that guide product development
- Drive due diligence serving as a technical specialist in the assessment of competitive products, traditional and new technologies and making recommendations to management
- Build infrastructure to establish a deep technical understanding of the consumer experiences within the functional benefits space with the goal of connecting the Consumer experience to the product design requirement
- Build small scale prototyping capabilities and / or work with partners for the creation of prototypes across all stages of design and delivery
We want you to have:
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, food science, chemical engineering, or a related scientific or engineering field. An advanced degree is preferred.
- 8+ years of relevant experience in food, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical or similar industries.
- Demonstrated experience in developing novel delivery systems for innovative products to achieve controlled release and targeted delivery profiles.
- Knowledge of formulation science and the vision to use synergistic/antagonistic effects across these areas during product development (e.g. administration route, release mechanisms, physical/ chemical properties of materials, ingredients and matrices, physiological interactions, etc.).
- Validated ability to synthesize information from multiple scientific fields to generate insights to guide product design and development - analytical & physical characterization, in-vitro & in-vivo model systems, PBPK modeling, sensory psychophysiology, consumer research, etc.
- Knowledge in product development principles evidenced with a consistent track record of patents, publications and scientific/regulatory engagements.
