THE ROLE

Based in Chicago and reporting to the Site Quality, the Quality Engineer Associate will assist in the site-specific process development and roll-out of new and existing products at the South Side Soap Box. This individual will execute the majority of the lab- and site-based work to ensure that our customers experience the same intended product every time, regardless of where it was made. An eye for detail, a passion for manufacturing, and a love of formulation/process/packaging will set this individual up for success in this role.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

The Quality Engineering Associate will:

  • Translate the generic batch instructions to a site-specific process that reflects local equipment and process capability. As necessary, confirm the batch process on a lab-scale and develop the commercialization process from lab to manufacturing plant of new and existing products transferring to the South Side Soap Box with the guidance of the Quality Managers.
  • Implement a working system to ensure conformity and accuracy in the production process.
  • Improve product quality by making recommendations for the change
  • Extensive experience in a quality assurance environment required.
  • High proficiency in computer technology and systems operations.
  • Collaborate with relevant teams and departments to improve products

  • Execute lab batches, scale-up exercises, stabilities, and other lab-scale studies to clarify the risks associated with producing new formulations or troubleshoot existing issues at the site.
  • Develop and complete production line qualifications on new or existing products, manage data collection, and complete machine capabilities studies. Identify areas for improvement in the final product quality and champion fixes.
  • Ideate process and production projects with the site team to improve quality and efficiency. Participate in the execution phase of projects and validate the results.
  • Work reception once in a while

QUALIFICATIONS:

EXPERIENCE:
  • 2-5 years of product formulation, plant scale liquid processing, and scale-up experience in cleaning products, personal care, or related field
  • Some familiarity with packaging equipment typical to personal care and HI&I
  • CQE, Six Sigma, Lean, PMP certifications - preferred
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Desire to learn about HI&I/CPG formulations as well as basic blending and filling for liquids and solids
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work within tight timeframes and deadlines
  • Willingness and ability to work independently + in a team environment.
  • Strong Analytical, Creative problem-solving skills
  • Proactive approach and work ethic appropriate for a fast-paced, team-oriented, growing company
  • Possess that certain "something" that makes us better
  • Willingness to learn + ability to adapt to a changing environment
  • Sense of humor, a positive outlook with a "can-do" attitude!
EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
