Processing Technician Job Description – Processing and Formulation
Responsibilities:
- Perform processing steps that include purification of crude cannabis extract into decarboxylated oil, distillation of cannabis oil and terpenes, and formulation of finished products
- Track all accurately in the EBR system
- Perform mass balance calculations, dilution math, collect and maintain data, execute master batch records and follow good documentation practices (GDPs)
- Prepare and plan for production by reviewing production schedule; understanding product specifications for purification and distillation; calculating equipment capacity and maintaining adequate supply levels as required
- Maintain and Operate highly sophisticated laboratory equipment such as rotary evaporators, centrifuges, distillation units, overhead mixers and balances, tablet presses, and fillers
- Cleaning and maintenance of laboratory equipment and laboratory facility following current good manufacturing practices (cGMP) and standard operating procedures (SOPs), complying with legal regulations; monitoring environment
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and create and/or update as necessary
- Abide by the facility rules
- Keep good records of all practices implemented and data collected as pertaining to role
- Assist with research and development of new formulation processes and products
- Maintain accurate inventory records for all process steps in the inventory database. Currently BioTrack THC
- Provide backup support for the Analytical Chemist, including sample prep and operation of HPLC, as necessary
- Store supplies and equipment, disposal of waste per guidelines, and keeping laboratory, storerooms and working areas immaculate
- Wash and sterilize laboratory glassware and equipment
- Perform clerical work related to laboratory activities such as word processing, record keeping, and filing
- Maintain material safety data sheets for all department chemicals and products
- Perform regular audits as required
- Perform any other job-related tasks or duties as assigned by management
Compliance:
- Ensure processing operation is fully compliant with state regulations and federal and state law
- Assure that all operations adhere to business and industry license requirements
- Maintaining strict inventory records of all plant materials, chemicals and equipment used in the laboratory and document production by completing forms, reports, logs and records as required
Job Qualification Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 1-2 years’ experience in a laboratory or manufacturing environment
- Experience conducting downstream processing and oil refinement
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Subject to background check per state cannabis regulations
- Must have valid NYS license with reliable transportation
- Must be able to work weekends and holidays as required
Job Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of and hands on experience with supercritical extraction, rotary evaporation, and distillation
- Ability to keep precise, highly detailed, and accurate records of calculations, procedures, and inventory of equipment, chemicals, consumables, and production
- Scientific laboratory procedures and techniques as used in a chemistry laboratory
- Scientific laboratory equipment and apparatusScientific methods of measurements
- Health and safety practices and precautions applicable to a chemistry laboratory
- Proper and safe handling and disposal of harmful chemicals, substances, and hazardous wastes
- Capabilities with computer systems, software, and hardware common to laboratories recordkeeping procedures
- Excellent time-management skills and ability to effectively plan and prioritize
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work with regulated material in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to focus & attention to detail
- Ability to communicate both verbally and written
- Work with Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Work with BioTrack THC and other inventory management software systems
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time, along with frequent bending and reaching
- Close visual focus required (clear vision at 20 inches or less)
- Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, work with fingers to manipulate small objects
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and push up to 100 pounds with assistance
