Job Description
The Procurement Lead, Small Molecules is responsible for the procurement activities necessary to support the smooth operations of the internal manufacturing sites within the Small Molecules & Oncology Operating Unit.
This role is a key member of the Direct Procurement Leadership Team and also serves as an extended member of the Small Molecules & Oncology Operating Unit (SM OpU) Leadership Team.
Responsibilities:
- Continuity of Supply and Services
- Collaborate with Global Category Leads to ensure uninterrupted material supply, supporting the transition and growth of the Small Molecules OpU.
- Act as Procurement sponsor for risk mitigation projects, engaging with second suppliers and alternate material qualifications.
- Work closely with Supply Chain and Supplier Quality teams on material issue resolution.
- Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the primary Procurement contact for the Small Molecules manufacturing sites within the Small Molecules & Oncology Leadership Team.
- Foster strong relationships with OpU Leadership and other Bus addressing strategic and operational needs.
- Facilitate regular communication between OpU Leadership and Direct Procurement to align on priorities and initiatives.
- Collaboration with Direct Procurement Leadership
- Contribute to the development and implementation of Direct Procurement strategies and initiatives.
- Lead or support key procurement projects, ensuring team involvement and alignment with OpU goals.
- Report on progress, achievements, and areas for improvement.
- Team Management
- Lead a global team of 7 direct reports, focusing on strategic and operational goals.
- Set clear objectives and development targets, providing regular feedback and support.
- Oversee team development, hiring processes, and budget management.
Required:
- Degree-level education, preferably with a business-related degree (MBA preferred).
- Business-level proficiency in English.
- 13+ years of relevant Sourcing & Procurement experience, including people and senior stakeholder management, supporting cost reduction projects, value improvement programs, basic contracting, eSourcing, and spot buying, preferably in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry.
- Demonstrated understanding of major spend categories and potential cost levers or market fundamentals.
- Experience or demonstrated understanding of Category Management principles and frameworks, as well as the development of sourcing strategies.
- Proven experience in material issue resolution and risk mitigation/management.
- Demonstrated experience in value creation, with a preference for experience in material discard reduction activities.
- Willingness to understand the business model, manufacturing activities, and strategic priorities of the relevant Operational Unit (OpU).
- Interest in digitalization solutions in procurement activities.
- Proven financial and business acumen (e.g., TCO, PPV, NPV, and Cost Modeling).
- Experience working in a fast-paced, multi-project, and multi-product manufacturing environment.
- Experience providing customer support across multiple countries.
- Experience or knowledge of offshore or shared service operating environments.
- Expert proficiency in basic MS Officeยฉ software.
Preferred:
- Postgraduate business-related qualification.
- Demonstrated ability to collate, organize, analyze, and report complex financial data, with a solid grounding in procurement and financial processes and systems.
- Documented international strategic sourcing, category management, and/or cost reduction experience.
- Experience in the pharmaceutical industry or management consulting.
- Experience with enterprise systems (SAP, Oracle) and procurement/procure-to-pay tools such as Ariba, Emptoris, SAP, SMR.
- Professional Purchasing (e.g., CIPS) or finance-related licenses or certifications would be advantageous.
