Job Description
Primary Function of Position
Intuitive Advanced Tissue Models goal is to provide realistic, accurate, and engaging simulation models for Intuitive training pathways as well as for surgical society and/or academic teaching programs. We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Product Design Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will play a critical part in the entire product lifecycle, from concept to commercialization. You will collaborate closely with surgeons, engineers, and cross-functional teams to develop and launch cutting-edge simulation products used to train surgeons on the use of the da Vinci surgical system as well as physicians on the use of the Ion endoluminal system. These products will be developed using a combination of synthetic and organic materials.
Essential Job Duties
- Product Design:
- Lead the design and development of innovative simulation models, incorporating human anatomy and da Vinci surgical system and Ion endoluminal system skills.
- Conduct thorough research and analysis to identify optimal design solutions and materials, prioritizing performance, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Continuously evaluate and optimize existing product designs to enhance functionality, reduce costs, and meet evolving customer needs.
- Product Development:
- Collaborate with team members in the product development process, from initial concept to successful commercialization.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively to ensure on-time delivery and project success.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with vendors throughout the product development cycle.
- Conduct rigorous testing and validation procedures to ensure product quality, safety, and compliance with all relevant regulatory standards.
- Customer Engagement:
- Collaborate closely with surgeons, physicians, and cross-functional teams to deeply understand their needs and requirements.
- Provide expert technical support and assistance to customers on product usage, troubleshooting, and resolving technical issues.
- Manufacturing Support:
- Partner with manufacturing engineering to develop, optimize, and support efficient manufacturing processes, systems, and hardware.
- Play a key role in the successful transition of new products from R&D to full-scale production.
- Facilitate the transfer of knowledge and technology between R&D and manufacturing teams.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
- Strong 2D and 3D visualization skills, including sketching, storyboarding, digital rendering, and CAD modeling (SolidWorks preferred).
- In-depth understanding of materials science, manufacturing processes, and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.
- Passion for design and innovation with a strong curiosity and desire to continuously learn.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.
- Proficiency in rapid prototyping techniques, including 3D printing.
Required Education and Training
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of proven experience in product design and development.
Working Conditions
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
- Ability to lift at least 40lbs.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering or science discipline.
- Experience working with synthetic polymers and other synthetic materials.
- Knowledge of systems controls, servo motors, pneumatic systems, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
- Strong understanding of human anatomy and physiology.

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications.
