Job Description
Full-time or Contract
At Velan Studios, we foster a culture of curiosity. Our games embrace diversity and are fueled by the adventurous spirit of our team. We are the creative minds behind titles like Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, Knockout City, and Hot Wheels Rift Rally, and our journey continues! Our studio's mission is to pioneer groundbreaking gaming experiences and reimagine play in new ways. We're committed to pushing the boundaries of traditional gaming, blurring the lines between reality and fantasy, and revolutionizing the industry one game at a time. Velan Studios comprises a team of remote, hybrid, and onsite professionals, with hybrid and onsite team members operating from our Troy, NY office.
We are looking for programmers of all types to add to our team. Our three requirements:
- Experience developing games professionally. Bonus points for shipping one or more titles.
- Our proprietary engine and tools are written in C. Our games are implemented with our in-house scripting language. You should be comfortable learning new languages and working in C.
- Our curiosity drives us. You must be deeply curious about something and have some evidence of that curiosity. We are looking for candidates that demonstrate a pattern of persistent and self-motivated exploration.
As an indie studio with the ambition to do all the things, programmers at Velan may work in a variety of areas including, but not limited to:
- Game mechanics and player progression systems.
- Network services and multiplayer support.
- Content creator tools.
- Rendering architecture and shader development.
- User interface design and implementation.
- Firmware for custom hardware.
- Core engine systems.
While many programmers have an area of expertise, we do not hire programmers so that they may work exclusively in one specialized area. Programmers should own areas of our technology but have the flexibility to work across the codebase. Future members of our team need to be ready to embrace our studio values including:
- World class games through unconventional thinking.
- Respect for players and colleagues. Ready for the responsibility that comes from that respect.
- Regional technology and game development community engagement.
