The Project Engineer will be responsible for supporting all aspects critical to Pre-Construction of utility scale Solar PV Plans from mid-stage development through notice-to-proceed (NTP). You will be responsible for coordinating and managing the technical evaluation and diligence of PV Plants by leveraging both internal and external subject matter experts. Day to day activities include development of the project’s technical scope and optimization, performing due diligence on solar project requirements from a design and construction standpoint, coordinating with engineering and procurement teams, Development support, high-level scheduling, leading certain engineering activities, supporting construction cost estimating with assumptions and project specific knowledge, briefing various levels of management on a project’s progress, issues and risk mitigation. The position will support Development and Project Finance, and interface with the broader EPCm team, organization, and 3rd party consultants. The current multi-GW portfolio spans the entire US, and some travel will be required.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide technical evaluation, due diligence, and support of solar and energy storage projects to the Development team during the development/pre-construction phase.
  • Coordinate with the development team to understand commercial, schedule, permitting, geotechnical, civil, electrical and major equipment supplier specifications for preliminary engineering, project estimates and RFP’s.
  • Review preliminary design & construction related documents for completeness and continuity with utility interconnect agreements, power purchase agreements, land lease agreements, environmental permits, and ensure industry best practice.
  • Support development of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) cost estimates to inform internal stakeholders and project economic modeling. 
  • Manage preliminary engineering to support preconstruction development and contractor selection phase. 
  • Work with project stakeholders to review and approve components of the bid package, submittals and decisions through the process.
  • Ensure RFP bid package and data room quality.
  • Evaluate and prepare EPC bid tab comparison consistent with company key commercial and technical criteria. 
  • Manage the turnover process from preconstruction to the project delivery/construction execution team.
  • Support Field Operations and Commissioning team as needed during project closeout.
  • Perform site visits and constructability reviews for projects across the United States

Must-Haves

  • Minimum 2 years of utility-scale solar experience in a project engineering, development, pre-construction, and/or construction
  • Knowledge of basic engineering concepts associated with renewable energy facilities (geotechnical, civil, structural, electrical)
  • Knowledge in engineering and cost estimating of utility-scale solar and energy storage projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to work in a cross functional, team environment.
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects and tasks under demanding schedule constraints.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering

Working Environment and Physical Demand

  • May require lifting/carrying items up to 50 pounds.
  • Travel up to 20%
