Job Description

Our mission at Atomic Machines is to bring autonomous bits-to-atoms manufacturing of anything at any scale to the world, and we are well on our way. We are developing an entirely new class of manufacturing foundry for micro- and nano-scale machines, and we are using that foundry to create products the world has heretofore been unable to build. Our first device has exceptionally strong and large-scale product-market fit: it is both iconic of what our platform can do and a driver of very significant enterprise scale.

Joining forces with us means becoming part of an incredibly talented, inventive and passionate multi-disciplinary team running hard to make our platform, devices and vision a reality. You will have the opportunity to help define the company from its earliest days. You’ll be challenged to learn and grow as a builder and a leader as the company itself grows rapidly. And you will receive significant equity compensation - you’ll truly be a company owner and benefit financially from our overall success.

Our offices are located in Berkeley and Santa Clara, California.

We are looking for a Quality Control Engineer to help lead our efforts in establishing world-class processes for a new class of manufacturing. The Atomic Machine Platform (AMP) is the first of its kind and therefore has unique abilities and requirements when it comes to quality control. We are looking for someone with a deep understanding of the fundamentals of quality control who also understands the promise of truly deterministic digital manufacturing. The ideal candidate will be able to combine their knowledge and understanding of quality control and continuous improvement with the capabilities of AMP to help usher in a new paradigm of precision and repeatability.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead the incoming, inline, and outgoing quality control for our manufacturing areas.
  • Lead development of control plans, and test/inspection procedures to identify and eliminate risks associated with our products and processes.
  • Lead the disposition of Quality Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
  • Lead the coordination of the Material Review Board (MRB), including data reporting.
  • Ensure that measuring and test equipment is within its calibration due date.
  • Contribute to continuous improvements of our products and processes.
  • Develop new procedures and train others. Maintain QMS quality records.
  • Support efforts to improve the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) of AMP.
  • Monitor quality metrics for the AMP and the devices it will produce.
  • Develop quality plans consistent with APQP methods, and PPAP deliverables.
  • Track recurring issues and support 8D root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Define and implement QC methods and workflows within the QMS tools.
  • Support reliability engineering practices: define requirements and test plans.
  • Support verification tests to improve manufacturing capability and product reliability: execute HALT, HASS tests, analyze results and failures, and lead Root Cause Analysis.

What you’ll need:

  • 3+ years of experience in a Manufacturing Quality Control environment.
  • Passion for creating products the world has heretofore been unable to build.
  • Deep understanding of the principles of quality control and management systems.
  • Experience with PDCA, Lean, and FMEA methods.
  • Familiar with advanced measurement and inspection techniques and tools: micrometers, CMM, optical measuring systems, and magnetic field measurements.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, including GD&T.
  • Experience with statistical analysis and statistical quality control.
  • Experience with Printed Circuit Board Assembly quality controls (IPC-A-600).
  • Experience with internal audits and ISO 9001.
  • Problem-solving skills and technical competence, with a quality-focused mindset.
  • Passion for structured problem-solving and continuous improvement.
  • Strong growth mindset: eager to learn and discover. Creativity and inventiveness.
  • Excellent teamwork skills with a can-do attitude and outstanding communication abilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Physics. ASQ certification.
