Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Rail Engineer to join Raleigh, NC Transportation team.

The position is scheduled to begin in Fall 2023.

Our established teams work alongside CSX and Norfolk Southern to review, manage, and safely deliver third-party projects across the eastern United States while maintaining railroad operations. Projects include the replacement and rehabilitation of overhead bridges, replacement of under-grade bridges, adjacent vertical construction, at-grade crossing improvements, Section 130 safety projects, utility installations, and a variety of other projects.

The ideal candidate is organized, able to balance multiple tasks, and interested in being exposed to a variety of projects and client interaction.

Typical duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Review of plans and specifications for conformance with Railroad requirements
  • Review of construction submissions for conformance with Railroad requirements
  • Monitoring of construction (such as bridge demolition and erection) for compliance with approved construction submissions and potential impacts to Railroad property and operations
  • Coordination with Railroad, Agency, Designer, and Contractor
  • Preparation of estimates
  • Management of project budgets
This position offers room for additional responsibility and career growth within Class 1 Railroad programs.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
  • Valid Driver's License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-2 cycles of internship experience or 1 year of prior professional work experience in rail is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with NCDOT is highly preferred.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Be organized and detail oriented.
  • Capable of using spreadsheet and processing and standard office software
  • Familiarity with freight rail clients is a plus.
