Job Description
Established in 1933, Control Associates along with its global process automation business partner, Emerson, specializes in supporting the process control equipment and service needs of the following industries: Biotech, Chemical, Food & Beverage, HVAC, Hydrocarbon Processing, Natural Gas Distribution & Transmission, Oil Refining, Pharmaceuticals, Power Generation, Pulp & Paper, and Water & Wastewater Treatment
Responsibilities:
- Normally work under the direction of RASS Manager or a project's assigned Lead Engineer as part of a project team. The RASS Associate Engineer will be required to support multiple projects simultaneously.
- Assist the RASS team with all aspects of RTU, flow computer and SCADA project implementation from project proposal support through to start-up and commissioning as required. The assistance includes but is not limited to:
- Review and assist in the development of, General Design Specifications (GDS), Detailed Design Specifications (DDS) and Functional Requirements Specifications (FRS).
- Assist and/or carry out the development of control strategies based on, General Design Specifications (GDS), and Detailed Design Specifications.
- Assist in the development of system graphics and database configuration.
- Assist with project planning, and scheduling.
- Maintain project documentation as required by the customer specifications.
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) along with startup, commissioning and troubleshooting of field devices (transmitters, switches, wireless devices, etc.) that connect and communicate to RTUs, flow computers and SCADA systems. This activity includes both office and field locations.
- Support the development of new or enhance existing CAI strategic applications which leverage Emerson's RAS RTU's and SCADA platforms.
- Assist the Lifecycle Services staff, when necessary, with control system panel and cabinet design and staging of control systems for factory acceptance testing.
- Stay up to date on required training and certification requirements (Emerson, customer, others as directed).
- Develop proficiency in the operation, installation and troubleshooting of common connected devices to RTU's - for example, intrinsically safe barriers, pressure transmitters, HMI displays.
- Develop proficiency in the use of tools required for installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of RTU's and equipment in RTU enclosures - Emerson software programs, process meters, etc.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the RASS Manager.

Prerequisites: Bachelor of Science degree is required, preferably in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering with focus on control theory and robotics is strongly preferred. Strong computer skills including software programming, hardware troubleshooting, including experience with MATLAB or equivalent program are strongly preferred. Understanding of operating systems and networking are strongly preferred. Experience working in an energy industry or industrial process environment is preferred. S/he will interact regularly with customers and co-workers, thus strong interpersonal skills and the ability to be a clear communicator is required. S/he must also have excellent organizational and time management skills. A valid Driver's License is required with the ability to travel as needed both in and out of the territory.
