What to Expect
The Cell Engineering team at Tesla San Diego is seeking a highly motivated CNC Machinist to support cell prototype build parts, production equipment/fixturing, and other custom machined parts. The CNC Machinist will support all aspects of cell pilot line activities, including cell builds, metrology, abuse testing, and failure analysis.
What You'll Do
• Set up, operate, and maintain the HAAS VF 2SS W/ 4th Axis rotary, Bridgeport manual mill, Manual lathe
• Programming & CAD software: Mastercam 2024, SolidWorks
• Collaborate with Engineers to understand specifications of sketches/drafts of prototypes and accurately quote lead times for machining parts
• Program CNC Mill as well as alter and proof NC Code
• Perform machining tasks and manage up to 5 to 7 jobs concurrently
• Produce prototypes and low volume parts with the occasional higher volume 100-300 pieces
• Act as the sole CNC Machinist, responsible for ordering raw materials, cutting tools, designing work holding, programming, setting up, operating the CNC, and performing complete quality inspections
• Proficient in understanding GD&T and deciphering technical drawings
• Thinking outside the box and finding creative and efficient ways to machine parts
• Use measuring equipment such as a digital caliper, micrometer, depth gauge, pin gauge, indicator, and other inspection equipment
What You'll Bring
• Hands-on experience programming, setting up fixturing, and operating a CNC machine for milling
• Proficiency in using Mastercam for design and programming
• Previous experience collaborating with engineering teams on specifications and machining parts
• Ability to problem-solve autonomously in a CNC machining role with minimal additional support
• Background in Machining and modifying Prototypes

Expected Compensation
$23.18 - $41.04/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
