Job TypeUnclassified - Judicial Department About the Position The Registered Nurse provides direct nursing care, and health-related services to adolescents in a secured detention facility while contributing as an active member of an interdisciplinary team. Registered nurses work a 12-hour shift to fill the hours of operation which are Monday through Sunday from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Position Qualifications We recognize your time is valuable, so please apply if you meet the following required qualifications: Education: • Associate's degree in Nursing from an accredited school of Nursing Other Requirements: • A valid, unrestricted Registered Nurse License issued by the Arizona State Board of Nursing or a license issued by another state recognized by the Arizona Board of Nursing as a multi-compact license state. • Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. • Positions in Detention are subject to Tuberculosis (TB) testing. All offers of employment are subject to the successful completion of new employee processing and a negative TB result prior to the start date. Our Preferred Candidate Has: • Bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing • Three (3) to five (5) years of previous job-related experience Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of: • Standardized Nursing Procedures • Registered nurse principles, procedures, and techniques used in the care and treatment of medical and psychiatric patients • Medical and psychological terminology • Standard medical documentation and record-keeping • Basic symptoms of medical, emotional and mental disorders • Basic symptoms and treatment of alcoholism and drug abuse (including overdose), communicable diseases, and public health outbreaks • Laboratory results and common current medical terminology • Control, preparation, and administration of medications • Common drugs and medications • Current standard asepsis protocols, awareness of Universal Precautions, and Bloodborne Pathogen procedures • Proper handling and administering of biologicals • Current technology and trends in the profession • Applicable safety policies and OSHA standards Skill in: • Using professional judgment to ascertain and apply appropriate intervention techniques with patients in crisis • Exercising appropriate judgment in answering questions and releasing information Ability to: • Work cooperatively with health care providers and staff • Clearly and accurately document patient information in the medical record • Operate a personal computer • Communicate effectively orally and in writing with a variety of individuals • Demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making abilities • Always preserve and protect patients’ rights and confidentiality Essential Job Tasks (This is not an all-inclusive list of all job duties that may be required; employees will be required to perform other related duties as assigned.) • Provides direct nursing care and treatment in accordance with established Standardized Nursing Procedures and department policies and procedures • Provides assessments and implements appropriate nursing interventions • Performs assessments of patients to make the determination of patient condition, need for treatment, medications, and/or referrals • Conducts a thorough technical assessment: blood pressure, temperature, pulse, height, weight, venipuncture, urine tests, pregnancy tests, blood glucose, PPD placements, injections, and inoculations according to nursing protocols • Monitors patients progress as necessary and evaluate outcomes • Administers medication and addresses other pharmacological needs as protocol dictates • Completes and processes all required documentation in a comprehensive, objective and legible manner • Provides health-related education as appropriate to patient needs • Participates in orientation and training of new employees, contract staff, and students • Completes special projects as requested • Identifies and fulfills educational needs to enhance nursing skills • Completes required classes and education credits • Maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS)/ Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification • Organizes and maintains a clean work environment • Completes health screenings at a detainment facility that operates 24/7, administers medications, inventory on medications, reviews health care request forms, and sorts medical complaints based on the needs of immediate medical treatment • Performs assessments as medically indicated and complete transfer summaries for continuity of care • The first responder to a medical emergency on-site Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may need to communicate clearly, perceive details of objects that are close by, and maintain various physical positions for extended periods, such as sitting, standing, or walking. The job may involve using hands for tasks such as typing, handling objects, or operating tools, as well as reaching with hands and arms. As such, mandatory membership for all full-time employees includes payroll deducted contributions consistent with each retirement system's requirements. The current contribution rate for ASRS is 12.27% and the current contribution rate for PSPRS is 5.84% and up for the defined contribution plan and 8.82% for the defined benefit plan.
