Research Scientist Intern, Neural Rendering (PhD)

The Reality Labs (RL) Research Team brings together a world-class team of researchers, developers, and engineers to create the future of AR and VR, which together will become as universal and essential as smartphones and personal computers are today. We are developing all the technologies needed to enable breakthrough AR glasses and VR headsets, including computer vision, graphics, body tracking, perception science, and true telepresence. The Virtual Humans team in Sausalito, CA works on cutting-edge research and development focusing on virtual people and presence. We envision a world where people connect across vast distances so our roles focus on full body capture and reconstruction. We are currently seeking innovative interns with a passion for rendering and innovative 3D representations and capture technologies.Our internships are twelve (12) to twenty four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.Research Topics: 3D human digitization Facial capture Virtual telepresence Deep learning Neural shading models Neural and differentiable rendering* Coordinate-based Implicit models

Research Scientist Intern, Neural Rendering (PhD) Responsibilities:

• Design and execution of algorithms
• Design and implementation of new reconstruction and rendering techniques in the realm of neural and classical rendering
• Prototyping, building and analysis of experimental systems
• Collaboration with and support of other researchers across various disciplines
• Communication of research agenda, progress and results

Minimum Qualifications:

• Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD in Computer Vision, Computer Graphics, Machine Learning or related fields
• Experience with Deep Learning
• Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
• Interpersonal skills: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
• Experience with neural rendering, implicit representations, deformation models, lightstage geometry reconstruction, or forward and inverse rendering of physically based shading models

Preferred Qualifications:

• Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship 2+ years of experience with 3D geometry reconstruction and representation and machine learning
• Experience with image-to-image transformation, transformers, recurrent neural networks, VAEs, GANs, rendering techniques and real-time frameworks (Unity or Unreal)
• Proven track record of achieving results as demonstrated in accepted papers at top computer vision, computer graphics or machine learning related conferences such as CVPR, ECCV, ICCV, NeurIPS, SIGGRAPH, EGSR, etc.

Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
