At Altos, we are all accountable for sustaining a diverse and inclusive environment.

What You Will Contribute to Altos

An exciting opportunity is available to join Diego Acosta-Alvear’s research group at Altos Labs, Bay Area Institute of Science. We seek a creative, driven, technically gifted, and enthusiastic Research Specialist passionate about making impactful scientific contributions to the fundamental mechanisms underlying cell health and bioresilience. The DAA Lab focuses on the dissection of the basic mechanisms governing spatiotemporal information flow in homeostatic cell signaling networks with the hope of identifying crucial nodes controlling cellular health and resilience to develop therapeutic interventions to reverse disease in a “disease agnostic” manner. The DAA lab strives for scientific excellence by tackling basic questions in cell homeostasis and stress biology rigorously and elegantly.

  • Engage in ground-breaking and innovative science.
  • Contribute to the growth of a vibrant, intellectually stimulating, and collaborative scientific community.
  • Push the boundaries of our current knowledge of homeostatic mechanisms and their role in enabling cellular decision-making, establishing cell states and identities, and preserving cell health, through direct engagement in company-wide projects to define the molecular circuitry that maintains cell health.
  • Ensure the continuity of current projects in the lab and across multi-lab collaborations at Altos by materializing the experimental designs of our scientists through the deployment of cutting-edge techniques, including multi-omics, cell engineering, and synthetic biology.
  • Work closely with scientists to implement workflows and technology platforms, such as the ones described above, for data collection and analysis to study the molecular determinants of cell resilience.
  • Coordinate with Altos SciOps, CROs, and internal Altos cores/innovation hubs to engage necessary expertise to drive/facilitate data collection and analysis.
Who You Are

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD or Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
  • 5+ years post-graduate experience (for candidates holding a PhD degree) or 8+ years post-graduate experience (for candidates holding a Master’s degree).
  • Research experience in a relevant field with demonstrated productivity (strong publication record, and invitations to seminars and symposia).
  • Knowledgeable, with practical hands-on experience in molecular and cellular biology techniques and mammalian cell culture.
  • Superb communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment.
  • Problem-solving skills to identify areas for improvement and develop innovative solutions on scientific, technical, and logistical fronts.
  • Ability to focus on the “big picture” coupled with an inherent ability to be detail-oriented to produce data of exceptional quality and accuracy in collaboration with multiple scientists.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with a broad range of people, including lab managers, scientists, and PIs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledgeable in mechanistic studies in biochemistry, signal transduction, and/or stress biology.
  • Experience with cell line engineering and viral transduction.
  • Experience with protein homeostasis analyses, RNA/DNA analysis including “omics” (chromatin immunoprecipitation, RNASeq, ribosome profiling, NGS library prep), CRISPR-based genome editing, gene expression control, and genetic screening.

Salary range: $124,100 - $167,900
