Description
Solid Power is seeking a Scientist to join our talented team working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next generation, all solid-state rechargeable batteries. In this role, you will help Solid Power continue to develop and refine advanced Si anode technologies to enable high energy density solid-state batteries. Through hands-on work and material analysis and characterization in our state-of-the-art labs and dry rooms, you will have the opportunity to rapidly innovate in the energy storage field. You will collaborate closely with the electrolyte and electrode processing groups and the cell engineering team to bring your results from lab scale into production.Â
Job Duties
- Develop materials and methods for improved anodes and full cell designs.
- Propose and test strategies to improve cell performance based on a mechanistic understanding of solid state cells. Develop new tools and techniques to advance understanding of limiting processes.
- Work closely with vendors to identify, evaluate, and optimize Si anode materials.
- Create new approaches to the synthesis and/or modification of anode active materials.
- Characterize chemical, electrochemical, and mechanical properties at the material and cell level.
- Assemble and test solid state cells.
- Collaborate with process engineering and manufacturing teams to integrate new materials and processes into scaled cells.
- Communicate project progress internally and externally. Produce technical reports and specifications as required.
- Work closely, collaboratively, and effectively with other departments and team members.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Master’s or Ph.D. degree in chemistry, material science, electrochemistry, polymer science, engineering, physics, or a related discipline.
- 2+ years laboratory experience in the development of batteries or other electrochemical systems.
- Hands-on experience with materials synthesis and/or processing. Experience with Si materials is a plus.
- Experience in material characterization using techniques such as XRD, SEM/EDS, FTIR, Raman, DSC, and TGA.
- Structured problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Self-motivated and rapid learner who thrives in a fast-paced start-up environment.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Salary Range:Â $62,000 - $125,000/year
