Nutcracker Therapeutics is recruiting an experienced Scientist l, Protein Expression who will be an important member of the Protein Therapeutics Team within the Research and Early Development organization. The incumbent will perform cell culture experiments, transient transfection, expression and purification of various protein formats such as antibodies, multispecifics, fusion proteins, and enzymes.

This position works out of our Emeryville headquarters.

Responsibilities:

• Transient transfection and expression of engineered protein at scales ranging from 0.5mL to >100mL using Expi293 cells
• Develop and execute protein production workflow for transfection, expression, purification, and protein characterization
• Support protein engineering, enzyme therapeutics, and in vivo expressed biologics pipeline projects
• Participate and contribute in cross-functional project teams and platform developments

Requirements:

• PhD (with at least 3 years’ of postdoc and industrial experience) or BS/MS (with 5 years’ academic/industrial experience) in biochemistry/cell biology or equivalence
• Able to perform and trouble-shoot problems with protein production (transfection/expression/purification) and characterization with minimum supervision
• Deep understanding of both DNA and RNA transient transfection and protein expression techniques
• Basic operational knowledge of AKTA purification and automation system
• Familiarity with bispecific/multispecific antibody production and characterization
• Perform protein titer assay such as ELISA and/or quantitative WB (Protein Simple JESS)
• Excellent organizational, technical, and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail
• Work independently as well as collaboratively as a part of the project team
• Great team player with a can-do attitude and the desire to excel in a fast-paced environment

The expected salary range for the Scientist l, Protein Expression is $120,000 to $130,000, based on candidate experience, education, location, and other job-related factors. Employees are also eligible to participate in benefits including Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, 401(k), PTO plan and employee stock options.
