The Informatics and Predictive Sciences (IPS) mission is to Pioneer, Partner and Predict to drive transformative insights for patient benefit. IPS conducts applied computational research in areas that include genomic, structural and molecular informatics, computational and systems biology, patient selection and translational biomarker research, and broader fields including knowledge science, epidemiology and machine learning-across the full lifecycle of drug discovery and development and across all therapeutic areas at BMS. We do this in close partnership with scientific and clinical experts in the field, both inside and outside the company. We seek a talented, collaborative inter-disciplinary computational scientist to work on the analysis, statistical modeling and generation of hypotheses from large, complex, multi-modal patient-derived data sets. This individual will play a key scientific role leveraging innovative computational analysis strategies and rich patient data to empower data-driven decisions. They will work alongside BMS colleagues in our Informatics & Predictive Sciences department and will collaborate closely with internal partners within the Research organization.

Analysis scenarios will involve applying cutting-edge bioinformatics, statistics, ML/AI, and data analysis methods integrating clinical and multi-modal data sets that from BMS's industrial-leading early-stage oncology clinical studies. Develop and benchmark ML/AI methods integrating multiple data types, which could include WES/WGS, RNA-Seq, scRNAseq, spatial transcriptomics, IHC/H&E, among others. This work will influence development strategies and help advance the BMS early-stage oncology pipeline. This position offers the exciting opportunity to make major contributions to scientific knowledge of cancer disease biology, and to directly impact treatment of cancer patients.

The position would suit an individual with strong biological and computational capabilities and excellent communication and collaboration skills. The role offers the opportunity to impact the delivery of truly transformational and life-changing therapies in key diseases of unmet medical need.

Responsibilities

  • Perform computational biology analysis for exploration and interpretation of omic datasets, including bulk and single-cell RNASeq, DNA methylation, Exome/Genome sequencing, cytokine, and proteomic data.
  • Conduct integrative analysis across different molecular parameters to align drug action with mechanistic hypotheses.
  • Perform exploratory analyses of molecular, clinical, and demographic data to identify mechanisms related to adverse events.
  • Leverage internal and external datasets, and available information on phenotypic subpopulations to augment data analysis and enable a broader understanding of the enrolled population and patterns of drug response.
  • Present and report methods, results, and conclusions to a publishable standard.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and 5+ years of experience in computational biology, bioinformatics, statistics or related fields
  • or Master's Degree and 3+ years of experience in computational biology, bioinformatics, statistics or related fields
  • or PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, statistics or related fields.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, statistics or related fields.
  • Prior experience (4+ years) of analysis, integration and interpretation of high-throughput data supported by high-quality publications.
  • Expertise in statistical programming and data manipulation, using e.g. R/Bioconductor, Python, plus good knowledge of contemporary database structures.
  • Expertise in statistical analysis, analysis of longitudinal data, data deconvolution and machine learning techniques.
  • Experience with version control and high-performance computing, including cloud computing and/or big data analytics platforms would be advantageous.
  • Scientific curiosity, collaborative spirit and proven ability to contribute beyond personal projects.
  • Ability to understand and communicate the output of computational research to multi-disciplinary scientific teams.
