Scientist, Phagosome-Lysosome Biology

An exciting opportunity is available for a Scientist I or II with expertise in phagosome-lysosome functions to join the Bay Area Institute of Science at Altos Labs. You will work in a highly collaborative, innovative, and intellectually stimulating environment to tackle key questions in aging-, injury- and disease-associated changes of brain functions.

• Engage in ground-breaking and innovative science with a group of talented scientists.
• Design and carry out research projects in collaboration with colleagues, outside agencies and collaborators.
• Use both in vitro and in vivo models to study lysosome functions in aging, injury and other disease models.
• Develop project-specific experimental strategies, techniques, and procedures.
• Mentor and train research associate(s).
• Writing and dissemination of research results.

Minimum Qualifications

• PhD in a Life Sciences discipline.
• A documented record of professional achievement in the form of impactful publications.
• Excellent understanding of lysosome biology and lipid metabolism.
• Expertise in cell/molecular biology and biochemistry techniques.
• Excellent professional presenting skills and the ability to attune to a variety of audiences.
• Excellent computer skills, including advanced proficiency MS Office and Prism GraphPad or equivalent graphic skills.
• Problem-solving skills sufficient to identify issues, conduct research, and develop innovative solutions.
• Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with a broad range of people, including staff colleagues, outside agencies and collaborators, and the community.
• Ability to organize work and set priorities.
• Ability to focus on details to produce accurate, quality work.

Preferred Qualifications

• Postdoctoral or industry experience working with phagosome-lysosomes and/or macrophages.
• Experience with lipid metabolism and transportation.
• Experience with FACS and plate-based assays.
• Hands-on experience with flow cytometry, mass spec, proteomics and lipidomic analyses.
• Experience with primary cell cultures and development of in vitro disease models.

Salary range: Scientist I, 120,700 - 163,300; Scientist II, 142,000 - 211,950
