The Seed Manager is responsible for supporting seed sales activities at assigned locations, working within an area support team and ensuring that the company's goals and objectives are implemented.

The employee's primary duty must be the performance of office and some manual work directly related to the management or general business operations of Helena or Helena's customers (including help plots, harvest plots, and sort seed). This also includes the exercise of discretion and independent judgement with respect to matters of significance.

What your day may look like

  • Works with Division/Area Manager to establish goals and direction for seed
  • Develops division and area long-term plans and forecasts for our seed business.
  • Provides seed sales direction to branches consistent with the division, business unit and corporate plans and sales objectives.
  • Works with division and area managers to develop seed sales and profit objectives by division and location.
  • Provides program information and summaries to branch managers and sales reps.
  • Works with division and area manager to increase branch awareness of their current seed market share and market share goal.
  • Identifies training needs of division/area/branches consistent with growth goals for the business unit and divisions.
  • Organizes and implements seed training with division/area leaders.
  • Communicates and explains seed vendor programs and how those programs impact branch profitability.
  • Other duties as assigned by your leader.
  • Reliable and regular attendance is expected.

Education and experience needed for this position

  • Bachelor's degree in an agricultural-related field is required.
  • Five years of experience in seed sales is required.
  • A combination of education and experience will be considered.

Other skills that will help you succeed

  • Understanding of agronomic seed systems and how they apply to other categories (i.e. agchem, fertilizer, seed, Helena proprietary products, etc.).
  • Understanding of trait packages and seed germplasm.
  • Experience managing grower and seed programs, purchasing programs and other marketing programs.
  • Past experience building strong relationships with suppliers.
  • Presentation skills along with the ability to sell ideas and concepts.
  • Proven managerial, motivational and leadership qualities.
  • Ability to self-direct, prioritize, set goals, evaluate and review progress and create objectives and timelines.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office is required.
  • Ability to learn and use new technologies.
  • Ability to travel up to 80 percent by car and plane, is required.

Your work environment and the physical aspects of the job

The work environment for this position may require the employee to work in an outdoor setting in all types of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements. When working outdoors and possibly around moving equipment/mechanical parts, the employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, chemical and biological hazards, vibrations and a risk of electrical shock. This position requires you to use your hands for many different tasks and to talk, hear, walk, stand and sit. You may be occasionally required to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
