About This Role

Biogen’s Translational Medicine Biomarkers group is seeking a highly independent and motivated senior associate scientist to join a dynamic team engaged in the discovery and development of novel biomarkers from research to implementation in preclinical and clinical studies. Responsibilities include identification, evaluation, characterization, development, and analytical validation of relevant fluid biomarkers in support of programs across Biogen. The role will be predominantly laboratory based (80-90%) and will work closely with other team scientists in a matrixed environment.

What You’ll Do

  • Per the need(s) of the program, strategically develop, analytical validate and analyze clinical samples for target engagement, disease activity and/or pharmacodynamic biomarkers to enable program progression and assist in go/no-go decisions.
  • Effectively use FACS and Immuno-based platforms (ELISA, SIMOA, MSD, etc.) to develop and qualify fit-for-purpose biomarker assays in house or provide scientific oversight at partnered CROs.
  • Analyze and present data at team meetings and internal group forums.
  • Contribute to accurate representation and interpretation of biomarker data in all relevant documents/internal or external publications (clinical study protocols, clinical study reports, posters, manuscripts).
  • Establish partnerships with biomarkers and other research colleagues and be part of the lab support function, maintaining instruments and calibration records as well as lead or participate in various laboratory initiatives.

Qualifications

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or related scientific field with a minimum of 2 years of Pharmaceutical or Biotech industry experience.
  • Hands-on experience with Biomarkers method development on various platforms (i.e. flow cytometry, immunoassays)
  • Must work effectively within team to meet objectives under time constraints.
  • Ability to take direction well and multi-task.
  • Detail oriented and highly organized.

Preferred Skills

Experience in molecular techniques (RNA isolation, qPCR) is a plus.
