We're looking for a Senior Content Specialist, Innovation to write, ghostwrite, and edit a wide range of content for our Innovation Office. Content types include blogs posts, social media posts, white papers, LinkedIn articles, ad copy, proposal content, web copy, videos, journal articles, and interactive infographics.

Your key initiatives will include, but not be limited to:

  • Positioning Stantec as an architecture and engineering firm that leads the industry through innovation
  • Promoting our innovative products and services from across Stantec's five business operating units (Buildings, Energy & Resources, Environmental Services, Infrastructure, and Water)
  • Increasing awareness of our digital services and products (Stantec.io)
  • Raising the profile of GenerationAV, our autonomous vehicle focused consulting arm
  • Supporting future innovative business areas

In this role, you will work closely with members of the Innovation Office, Innovation and Digital teams across the business operating units, and Marketing, Communications, and Public Relations (MCPR) colleagues.

Stantec offers a flexible work environment, and we are open for this role to be based out of any location in North America.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Interview subject matter experts about their innovative ideas, products, and services
  • Translate their complex ideas into dynamic, engaging and on-brand content
  • Partner with subject matter experts and MCPR colleagues to help plan, implement, measure, and report on multi-channel (web, social, email, etc.) and multi-format (blog, video, webinars, eBooks, interactive, virtual events, etc.) content marketing campaigns that drive brand awareness, lead generation, and client engagement.
  • Ensure key strategic and brand messages are consistent and communicated effectively to target audiences
  • Write and edit content including, but not limited to, blog posts, articles, social media posts, video briefs and scripts, website profiles, proposal copy, email copy, etc. Adapt content for a variety of mediums.
  • Partner with Stantec's graphic design and/or video teams, as required, to develop supporting visual/multimedia aids to support key communications (e.g., infographics, videos)
  • Develop and maintain content calendar as an integrated part of broader campaign calendars, in close alignment with MCPR colleagues
  • Work in close partnership with SEO, marketing data analysts, graphic design, and digital marketing professionals to ensure that any digital content produced is aligned with the overall goals of each campaign
  • Tag and title content with an understanding of how keywords impact natural search traffic and rankings via optimized content
  • Establish a strong understanding of target audiences and develop strategies that map content across multiple channels to the various stages of their journey through the sales process
  • Participate in MCPR and practitioner meetings, as needed, to discuss specific content initiatives and contribute to brainstorm sessions for story and promotional campaign development and content marketing strategies
  • Support the Innovation Office's internal communications lead on content, as required

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to tell brand stories
  • Passion for clear, concise communications, and the ability to convert the highly technical, complex topics into simple language
  • Proven ability to write content in a wide range of digital formats, from headlines to long-form
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a team, as well as independently and with minimal supervision
  • Ability to effectively communicate with and present ideas to management, supervisors, colleagues, and internal partners
  • Creative, strategic thinker
  • Strong project management and time management skills with the ability to effectively balance multiple projects and priorities
  • Fundamental understanding of the media landscape (traditional and digital)
  • Excellent consultation skills, including the ability to quickly build rapport and trust
  • The follow capabilities are considered an asset:
  • Demonstrated proficiency with digital marketing tools (particularly SEO, email, and automation platforms) and Microsoft Office applications
  • Understanding of digital marketing analytics and the ability to make data-informed content and campaign decisions is considered an asset
  • The ability to plan, execute, measure, and report on digital marketing campaigns
  • The ability to effectively collaborate with and provide constructive feedback to visual communicators / graphic designers on the visual aspect of content

Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary degree in communications, public relations, English, journalism, or marketing.
  • 5-7 years of experience working in a content marketing, communications, public relations, or journalism role (agency experience, professional services industry, or technology industry experience preferred)
  • Proficiency in social media marketing and strategy is preferred.
